March 2014: Fancy Mystery Box

Fancy Box

Remember those Fancy mystery boxes I mentioned??  Well I finally got mine.  Now let’ see what type of random shows up in my box.
Open Open 2

ID Holder
LAEX Fancy ID Holder
(Fancy Retail: $30.00)
Verdict:  Miss/Repeat
I received this ID holder in a previous box and wasn’t too psyched about it then either.  I still have the old one just waiting to be gifted, so I’ll probably just keep this one for my special occasion purses that are too small for a wallet.  I don’t’ know where Fancy comes up with the value for some things, but there is no place that has ever existed where this is worth $30. It’s just a plastic ID holder with the words “Foolish” on it.  I guess the foolish part is for anyone stupid enough to pay $30.00 for it.

Polish
China Glaze Polish in Platinum Silver (Fancy Retail: $8.00)
Verdict:  Miss/Gift
I’ve never tried China Glaze and if the color had been a little more interesting I would have been excited for this.  With spring finally arriving and all the cool new colors, this silver isn’t compelling.  I have too many similar shades so I’ll gift or trade this one.

 Decal
Work Hard, Stay Humble Wall Sticker (Fancy Retail: $20.00)
Verdict: Miss
So I don’t like the font, I don’t like the saying and there’s no way this is worth $20.00.  If you did any searching for spoilers on this box, you will see that many, many people got this decal and many, many people hate it.  I guess the good thing I can say about it is that  it’s something I haven’t received in a previous Fancy box.  That’s pretty much it.

Notebooks
Fancy Notebooks
(Fancy Retail:$12)
Verdict: Miss/Repeat
I’ve gotten these before.  I love blank notebooks and I’m sure I’ll use these or pass them along, but they’re  just not that interesting and I certainly wouldn’t pay $6 a piece for them.  Still, I like them the most out of everything in this box.

Overall
Miss

So basically it looks like Fancy is sending out the crap leftover after they finished putting together their 2013 boxes.  Now I’ve googled other Fancy mystery boxes and this one seems to pop up quite a lot, but there are others and they are much cooler (although that’s not saying much).  The cost of this box was only $10, but the shipping was $7.95.  According to Fancy, the items valued $70, but according to real people this crap wouldn’t be over $20. I had some Fancy credits so I only ended up paying only $1.95.  I’m still annoyed though because half the stuff in this box I got in my regularly priced boxes so I’ve paid twice now for the same level of suckage.

If you’re a regular Fancy subscriber don’t bother picking this up.  You’ll most likely get repeats.  If you’ve been wanting to try Fancy, I’d say take the gamble.  Fancy is really a hit or miss box, and the mystery boxes seem to follow the pattern of their regular subscription, but just at a much lower price. If you happen to love decals, go for it.  The odds are ever in your favor.

Did you pick up a Fancy mystery box?  If so, what did your mystery reveal?

  1. Sorry this box was such a miss for you. The China Glaze is the only thing that would appeal to me. I really like their long lasting and smooth formulas. CG is excellent polish, but if you have a bunch of similar shades, it’s less awesome.

    1. Yeah I probably have five or six similar Juleps. I wish it had been something a little more cheerful and bright because even if I had dupes I’d try it just for the formula. But it’s a nice color so I’m sure someone else will enjoy it.

  2. I’m still waiting on mine, and from the reviews I’ve seen, I think I should just assume that I will be getting the same stuff you got. I don’t want to get my hopes up. I’ve seen a few boxes that were awesome, and that’s what made me buy (was really hoping for the Ted Baker manicure kit).

    1. That Ted Baker kit looked wonderful. I got a Ted Bakery jewelry roll in a previous box and I really liked it. You should prepare yourself to get a decal. Fancy must have like a million of them.

  3. I’m not a regular subscriber but I did pick up a small women’s box yesterday after they introduced the different box sizes. I’m hoping it will include some interesting things…I guess if it doesn’t at least I’m not out a lot of money. I’ve seen a lot of reviewers who got this version of the box and were disappointed with it. I might be having a bit of buyers remorse but I’m considering contacting their customer services department to see if I can cancel my order since it hasn’t shipped yet.

    1. Hopefully now that they just introduced the different sizes it means they will be sending more variety. The bright side is that as a regular subscriber I already got two out of four items in this box, so whatever you get will at least be equivalent to the regular subscriber box. Good luck and hope you get one of the awesome boxes that are floating out there!

  4. Have you received the April JLove box yet? Fancy took the payment like normal, but it still hasn’t shipped?

    1. Still waiting on the April Jlove box, but I’ve already been charged. I got the original April Fancy box awhile ago, but only got billed for that recently. Fancy’s billing is totally confusing and inconsistent.
