Naturebox: April 2014

So I’m catching up on a few of the April boxes I didn’t get a chance to post about. April was my 3rd (and last) month of Naturebox. I opted to pick up some snacks I knew we liked and throw in a few new ones. For info on a Naturebox subscription, their new pricing options and a coupon code, jump down below. Now let’s dive into the snacks!

Box Open

We’ll start with the familiar ones:

Pretzels
Sourdough Cheddar Pretzels

Serving Size= 9 pieces
Calories per serving : 120
Weight Watchers points per serving: 3
Description: Cheesy Salty Pretzel-ly Goodness
Verdict: Love!
My boyfriend loves these so I had to get two bags. These pair really well with beer and are a nice alternative to chips for game day.

dark cocoa
Dark Cocoa Almonds

Serving Size= 1/4 cup
Calories per serving : 150
Weight Watchers points per serving: 5
Description: Chocolate covered awesomeness
Verdict: Love!
I got these in the last box and I loved them so much I had to pick them up again. If you’re familiar with the Trader Joe’s chocolate covered almonds, these are very similar but with a thinner coating so they’re a bit lighter. If you have a sweet tooth and are trying out Naturebox, I can’t recommend these enough.

Now for the new contestants…

 Lemon
Lemon Meringue Waffles

Serving Size= 33 pirvrd
Calories per serving : 120
Weight Watchers points per serving: 3
Description: Communion Wafer flavored with Lemon Pledge
Verdict: Exterminate..Exterminate…
So I was looking for something I hadn’t tried and these Lemon waffles popped up. I really like lemon flavored things and I thought they’d be like super light cookies. I was so, so, so wrong. They taste like communion wafers dipped in lemon pledge. I don’t know how these snacks can be “natural” when the texture and taste is so synthetic. And that 22 per serving is like the college hazing portion. The memory of one is too horrifying. I don’t think I could make it through 5 on a bet. If you hate someone, give them a plate of these. Otherwise skip.

Honey Nut
Honey Nut Medley
Serving Size= 1/4 cup
Calories per serving : 170
Weight Watchers points per serving:5
Description: Lightly sweetened mixed nuts
Verdict: Like
Every time I hear the word “medley” I keep waiting for someone to burst into a Gershwin tune.   (It’s probably just me – you can take the girl out of music school, but you can’t take music school out of the girl). So back to the food.  Just some nuts coated with a bit of honey.  No more, no less. They tasted just fine but I don’t see what sets them apart from the multitude of nut mixes you can get from your regular grocery store, Trader Joe’s or whole foods. They didn’t have any unique flavors or combinations. A solid choice, just not exciting enough to prompt me to burst out into song (which is a shame since I do a kickass “Someone to Watch Over Me”.)

OVERALL
Eh..

So I got a great deal for a 3 month subscription on Groupon and with a small Groupon credit, I ended up paying only $20 for a 3 month subscription. That comes out to about $6.67 per box. This is another month where I made the mistake of choosing something inedible. What I found particularly disappointing about the lemon waffles was how artificial they tasted. The idea behind this box was healthy snacks and nothing about those tasted healthy (or like a snack).

I enjoyed trying out this subscription for the low price I paid, but I think for the sizes and offerings, the full price is much more than I am willing to spend. I can get similar snacks at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods for less or order bulk on Amazon of my favorite brands.

Do you subscribe to Naturebox? If you do, what are your favorite and least favorite treats?

Did you try out the Naturebox snack in the April Popsugar box? If so, what did you think?
