So one of the resolutions I have for this little blog of mine has been to take advantage of living in the NYC metro area and periodically feature beauty and fashion events in NYC. Today I’ve got something super special featuring our sub box darling, Julep.
Julep periodically hosts “maven meetups” in different geographical locations for its box devotees and last night they hosted one at the Park Hyatt in midtown. While meeting some friendly and fabulous Julep mavens, along wit the effervescent and charming Jane Park, CEO & Founder of Julep, I snagged a sneak peek at what’s in store for February. So gather round and let’s take a look at my best attempts at using my Iphone to take pics.
BEAUTY PRODUCTS!
February is going to be all about the glow and features two types of luminizers. There is a powder version with a really awesome fan brush and a cream style that comes in a light and dark shade.
I didn’t grab a pic of the cream luminizer packaging but it is similar to the lip plumper. I’m on the fence about whether I’ll purchase one, but the fan brush is high quality so I think I may be grabbing one of those for myself.
POLISH COLORS & A FREEBIE FOR FEBRUARY!
Before we get into the polish colors, I can let you know that February will bring another polish freebie and it’s frick’n awesome. Heartleigh is a red heart glitter polish and it will be a freebie in all the maven boxes. It was my fave color of the evening so I’m super psyched to grab it for free.
Here are my polish swatches on white paper.
I’m going to give you my best descriptor of them, but realize I’ve got them swatched on white paper so some colors will probably look very different on the nail. Another maven was brilliant and brought along her own swatch sticks and I am definitely going to steal that trick for next time.
London: (Classic with a Twist) A dark, smoky lavender. (Similar Julep Shade: Charlotte)
Keiko (Bombshell) A very dark army green. (Similar Julep Shade: Kendra)
Elise: (Bombshell) A dark marine blue creme (Similar Julep Shade: Lacey)
Carla (It Girl) Petal pink creme (Similar Julep Shade: Martha)
Jess: (Classic with a twist) Dark Mahogany Brown (Similar Julep Shade: Fiore)
Heartleigh: (Classic with a Twist): Red heart topper with pink, white and red glitter
Colton: (It Girl): Black with a bit of shimmer (Similar Julep Shade: Ledi)
Brandis: (Boho Glam) A dark seafoam crème (Similar Julep Shade: Denver)
Hazel: (Boho Glam) Electric purple shimmer (Similar Julep Shade: Katie)
Becky: (It Girl) A satiny grey with green shimmer (Similar Julep Shade: Blakely)
MY PICKS!
Funny enough, I’m most excited for the Heartleigh polish. I have a similar drugstore OPI, but Heartleigh is much nicer and very similar to the NCLA’s Heart Attack polish that I have coveted for a long time. As for the other colors, Hazel and Becky are most likely going to find their way into my box. I like Brandis and Elise but I already own similar colors. I’m still on the fence about the beauty products but if the add-on price for the brush is reasonable I’ll probably snag that as well.
Overall I was surprised that the collection featured so many dark colors and shockingly not a single red (excluding the glitter in Heartleigh). I do kind of wish there was another bright option or something a bit more cheerful, but I’m sure that will come as we get closer to Spring.
What did you think of the colors? Are any of the shades calling out your name?

How fun to have attended a Julep Maven meetup! The heartleigh definitely looks nice 🙂
I really have this soft spot for polishes with glitter hearts in them so I already know that I’ve got to order a box next month.
Exciting! Can’t wait till next month. I hope they have a meeting in Boston soon 🙂
You should suggest it on their page!

I’m so excited for February’s special gift. I’m not sure about the polishes though. We’ll see when the official swatches go live. If they’re accurate 😉
A lot of the darker shades are probably not coming across accurately with the small swatch on white paper. I think in particular Becky will be one that looks completely different.
Such a great post. I signed up for a box awhile ago, got my free box, but never really did again. I’ve been skipping and skipping. I really like the colors for Feb, probably going with the Boho glam box! Will be looking forward to choosing it!
Thanks! I think I’m probably going to go with Boho Glam as well since I’m still one of the mavens with an uncustomized box.
I’ve been a Maven almost a year now. I am never disappointed with their products but this may be the first time i skip a box. I think I’ll get the new mystery box and add the congrats duo. Once secret store open, I’ll try to get Becky. Thanks for the sneak peek!
You’re welcome! This collection doesn’t wow me as much as some of the previous ones, but I really love the free polish so I’m in for February.
How accurate are the official pics and swatches for Brandis on Julep’s website? I would LOVE a true turquoise but it looks very dark in your paper swatches (more like Julep’s Misti than Denver) and more like a sky blue in Jane’s sneak peek video… Thanks!
I’d say that not super dark and probably a bit lighter than Denver. I personally opted not to get it because I own Butter London’s Slapper and I think Brandis is just a slightly darker version of it. It is not sky blue at all – definitely green. http://www.butterlondon.com/Lacquers/Bright-Nail-Lacquers/Slapper.html
