Julep Maven: November 2016: Light & Shadow!

I’m powering through my Winter 2016 box reviews so today I’ve got Julep’s Light & Shadow November collection including swatches of all the Eyeshadow 101 shades they introduced!  Also, Julep has a great coupon code that expires TODAY.  Get $20 off your $50 Purchase, just use code YOUYEAR at checkout.  At midnight this offer turns into a pumpkin so if you’ve got a long Julep wishlist going, jump on this asap.

I was so excited to see all the new Eyeshadow 101 shades Julep introduced, that I opted to go for a pricier maven box and snag them all.
My maven box came in a large box with a smaller box and my add-on nestled inside.

Eyeshadow 101 – Crème-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick

(Retail $18.00/Maven Price: $14.40)
Description: “A waterproof, crème-to-powder shadow stick on top with a spongy smudger on the other end. Expect huge color payoff and crease-proof, stay-all-day power.”
Pearl Shimmer: Soft Cream Shimmer
Violet Shimmer: Electric Lavender Shimmer
Midnight Blue: Deep Navy Sheen
Burgundy Shimmer: Port Wine Shimmer
Evergreen Shimmer: Forest Green Shimmer
Gunmetal Shimmer: Pewter Shimmer
Copper Shimmer: Cinnamon Shimmer
Verdict: Hit!
These colors are so lovely it’s hard to pick a favorite from the bunch.  The pearl is a great highlight shade that you can use with other eyeshadows in your collection, or just in the inner corner of your eye for that extra bit of pop.  I found the burgundy to be unique and surprisingly wearable and the midnight blue is great for a smoky eye that isn’t too Goth.  I was concerned that the copper shimmer might be too warm for my cool skin tone, but it’s still quite wearable.   The gunmetal is a classic that I reach for everyday and the violet is a really fun, unexpected pop of color.  These eyeshadow sticks come with a blending tip at one end, but I personally don’t use it.  In order for it blend and not erase the product, you need to first saturate it with shadow.  Instead I use my fingers or a brush to blend, and reserve the tip for erasing if I’ve put too much on.  I find myself reaching for eyeshadow sticks during my work week because they are so fast to apply and there’s no need to fuss with brushes.  If you like minimal effort in your makeup application, consider giving these a try.

(Retail $14.00/Maven Price: $11.20)
Verdict: Hit!
Description: “Putty Multidimensional Holographic”
I’m a sucker for nude glittery polishes so I had to grab this one.  It has a lot of sparkle and I think it can work for both dressed up and down looks.

 OVERALL:
julep-11-2016
Verdict:
Love!
I’ve been saving up jules (rewards you get for your maven sub box orders) and used it to cover the cost of my maven box, so I only paid for my add-on polish.  That brought my out of pocket costs to just $7.48 for all the items you see!  According to my calculations, this box had a retail value of $140 and a maven value of $112 – so not too shabby. Those eyeshadow 101s are really lovely and the Keiko polish is a glamorous update on a neutral shade.  Definitely one of my favorite Julep boxes to date!

    1. The “jules” julep offers to subscribers is a really great perk. You can also use them on special items they offer. I like to save them up for boxes so I can splurge on something fun–and these liners were definitely a great choice!
