Popsugar: January 2017 Must Have Box + April & LE Resort Box Spoilers!

I know it’s been quiet over here, but that’s because I have so much awesome stuff going on!
I’ve been working on the new house (I can’t tell you how sore I am from painting cabinets) and I’ve got a fun post coming up for a ceiling fan hack that costs under $7.  On the sub box front, I’ve got some great new boxes to share including a new dessert box.  Lastly, for my upcoming book, The Ice Maiden’s Tale, I’ve been working with my Publisher on finalizing the cover art.  Hopefully I’ll have more to share on that front too.

So to summarize – less time writing = more time getting cool stuff to write about.

Today, I’ve got one of my old favorites: my Popsugar Must Have Box.  We’ve got the January review plus a sneak peek at their brand new Limited Edition Resort Box and an April 2017 Spoiler!

Limited Edition Resort Box Spoilers!

Limited Edition Resort Box
“It’s the season to relax and reinvigorate. Start by planning a dreamy getaway. Then kick off your luxurious lounging in style with our curated box of travel essentials. Whether it’s a beachside resort or your own backyard, feel and look fab wherever you go.”
Quantities are limited, so don’t delay! Orders placed by March 15 will ship by March 20. Orders placed after March 15 will be shipped within 7-10 business days. All orders will ship via FedEx SmartPost
Cost: $100
These look like nice summery items, but I’m on a hella tight budget for anything that doesn’t attach to a ceiling or wall.  But if you like both items, it might be worth the $100 gamble.

APRIL 2017 SPOILER

I love, love, love getting home items in boxes and I can’t wait to use this in my new kitchen.
What do you think of it?

JANUARY MUST HAVE BOX

Goldfaden MD Fresh A Peel Multi Acid Resurfacing Peel

(Suggested Retail: $85)
Description: “Taking the term fresh-faced literally, this supercharged peel removes dead skin cells and with continued use, skin may become softer and brighter.  This natural skin care line is clean nd cooling while delivering effective results.  Rejuventate your skin this season from the inside out!”
Verdict: Okay
This is a nice (and spendy) brand but for me personally, I have a stockpile of skincare so it’s not that exciting.  I do think though, that is a great fit for a new year/January box and that most subscribers will probably love it.  That being said, I’m sure I’ll use it, I just need to get through my stack of other products first.

May Designs Desk Calendar & Notecard

(Suggested Retail: $25.00)
Description: ”Start each month off with a bit of beauty as you flip through this calendar filled with 12 hand-painted floral patterns.  You’ll not only enjoy the unique designs, but someone else will too!  Flip over and cut along the dotted line to turn each page into a note for someone special.”
Verdict:
Like
This isn’t as awesome as the planner they sent out last January, but it’s still nice.  I especially like that you can turn each month into a notecard, when you are finished.  I do think that Popsugar should consider moving calendar and planner items to December boxes since a lot of people purchase those types of items before the new year.

Daily Concepts Your Hair Wrap Towel

(Suggested Retail: $18.00)
Description: ”’Kiss that frizz goodbye!  With special microfibers, this towel helps reduce flyaways, cuts your blow-dry time, and wraps around your hair comfortably while staying put.  Tuck it into the reusable pouch forth perfect travel mate at the gym, at home, or on vacation.”
Verdict: Love!
Rachel Zoe made me fall in love with hair wraps and I’m happy to get another one to use.  I packed this up for the new house so I haven’t tried it out yet, but I’m sure it will be really helpful. I also love that it comes with a reusable pouch so it’s perfect for travel.

Manduka eQua Mat Towel in Playa

(Suggested Retail: $38.00)
Description: ”The perfect addition to any yoga class, this absorbent, quick-drying, and slip-resistant towel is ready to hold you in place as you breathe deep. Ultra-lightweight with exceptional durability, the soft, suede-like feel will cover your mat in style.
Verdict: Like
I’m usually not into exercise items because they tend to be: 1. Water bottles or 2. Too specific for a general sub box.  However, I think this item is a good choice, since most people who exercise use a mat and regardless of your practice, it’s nice to have a soft nonslip towel on top of it.

Sourcebooks, Inc.  Instant Happy Notes
(Suggested Retail: $8.99)
Description: “Versatile enough to pull bangs out of your face or to jazz up a topknot, these glittery hair pins can be worn individually or all together.  They’re festive enough for New  Year’s Eve parties and beyond!”
Verdict: On the Fence
These are a cute idea, but I’m not sure how to use them.  I may just take them along with me  on the commute and leave them in strange spots in NYC.  (So if you see a cheerful note somewhere in the Big Apple, it might be from me).

Dean & Deluca Peppermint Loose Leaf Tea

(Suggested Retail: $10.75)
Description: “It’s time to wind down and relax with this aromatic peppermint tea. The soothing menthol flavor and added digestive benefits will keep your days and nights calm and refreshing.”
Verdict: Not for me
I keep trying to make myself into a tea drinker and so far it’s not really working.  I may pass this along to a friend or just keep it for guests who like peppermint.

SPECIAL EXTRA

Glade N3 Free – Coconut and Beach Woods Candle
(Suggested Retail: $4.99)
Description: “Cold Winter days are wonderfully cozy when paired with a spectacular scented candle.  This soy candle, part of a new line of multilayered home fragrances, will transform your space into a sweet and woodsy oasis.”
Verdict: Gift
This candle is surprisingly chic for Glade brand and if you peel off the sticker, I don’t think folks would ever guess you could pick this up in a grocery store.  I love candles but the scent on this one was a bit strong for me, so I passed it along to a friend.  Still, I really love special extras that are actual items we can use, rather than gift cards which require additional purchases.

OVERALL:

Verdict:
Like!
Even though not everything was the right fit for me, I thought this was a well put together January box.  The items felt right for the new year and I think they would appeal to a wide range of subscribers.  Since I’m still working off my paid subscription during Popsugar’s fab promotion, this box cost me $20.46 and had an estimated retail value of $190.73 (including the Glade Candle).  That’s a great value even if I only use a few of the items.

I’ve got lots more box reviews coming up including some new sub boxes and old favorites.

Once upon a time, long, long ago, Lisa attended Syracuse University where she studied singing in a giant castle surrounded by ice and snow. After she earned her music degree, she headed to the island of Manhattan, down to the West Village, to a place called the New School. There, she earned another degree in the great art of writing stories for children. She currently works on that same island trying to help real people, while making up stories about imaginary ones. Her first book, “The Ice Maiden’s Tale,” a fairy tale adventure, was released on May 30, 2017 and is up for sale on Amazon.
