Daily Goodie Box – June 2017

Today I’ve got something great to get us through hump day.
A FREE box.  That’s right, I said free.
Daily Goodie Box will send you a box of free product samples.  All you need to do is sign up and then leave your reviews of the product on their site.  It’s that simple.  It’s subject to availability of course, but free is free.

Here’s our box…

Tiger Balm –  Pain Relieving Ointment
Verdict:  Useful, but small
Tiger balm is great when you’ve done something you’re probably not supposed to do and your muscles are making you pay for it.  I just wish the sample was a little bigger.

Prince of Peace – Original Ginger Honey Crystals
Verdict: Great for a cold
I’m not much into ginger beverages, but this sounds like something that would be perfect for when you catch some horrible subway flu.  The size is great for a sample.

Black Forest Organic –  Gummy Bears
Verdict:  You had me at gummy
I’ll be honest, if it’s fruit flavored and in gummy form, I’ll probably love it.  These were delicious, not quite as amazing as the Albanese gummies, but still quite good.

BiPro – Protein Water Berry Burst
Verdict:  Not my jam
I’m not really into the flavored “waters” and I try to stay away from drinks that have calories.  This had the type of flavor you’d expect from berry flavored water – a slightly synthetic, but mostly refreshing drink.

Crown Maple – Organic Maple Syrup
Verdict:  Love!
Organic maple syrup in an adorable glass bottle. Yes, please!
Coupon: Use code GOODIE25 for 25% off any product order.  Expires 8/31/2017.

VitaBath – Travel Size Body Wash
Verdict:  Hit!
Bodywash is a product that my household goes through pretty quickly so I’m always happy to try a new brand.  This one is sulfate and paraben free and comes in a variety of scents.  Mine is coconut which sounds perfect for summer.

BetterThanCoffee – Energy Bars
Verdict:  Not too bad
I’m not big on “energy” bars or drinks.  This one did have a more natural, hippy type flavor and texture.  It seemed like something that was good for you. (If that makes sense).

Pure Growth Organic – Snack Mix
Verdict:
  Decent
There’s nothing extraordinary about this mix.  It tastes just fine and I think kids will like it.

Goddess Garden – Mineral Removing Cleanser
Verdict:  Too small
I’m always up for trying out new organic beauty products, but I think this sample is just too small to get a real idea of whether you truly like this product or not.

OVERALL

Because this is a free box, I’m not going to give it an overall rating, but I found it to be a wonderful free box.  Most of the sizes are more than adequate to judge the products, and it has a nice mix of different types of things, including some brands you might not know about otherwise.  I also appreciate that it included a lot of organic and healthy options.  Definitely worth the five minutes it takes to sign up and the few minutes it takes to write a couple sentences about each item.

Have you ever tried any free sample product boxes? What did you think?

Heaven’s Honey Box: May 2016 & 15% Coupon Code!

Back in March, I filled you in on the launch of a brand new organic beauty box called Heaven’s Honey Box.  Not only did the lovely folks from Heaven’s Honey send me the May box to review, they also set me up with a great coupon code for my readers. For 15% off your first box, just use the code: SUBTHERAPY

This box costs $49.95 and features 5-8 full size, natural body care products.  I always get excited to see the first box in a subscription, so let’s get right to our natural and organic beauty splurges.

It looks like our featured brand this month is “Skin Nutrition from Nature with Love”.  That’s really quite a mouthful.  For the purposes of my sanity, I’m going to abbreviate them as SNNL because I don’t want to have to type out that whole sentence every time I refer to them.

Sugar ScrubSugar Scrub Open Face
Charcoal & Lemon Sugar Face Scrub

(Estimated Retail: $12.00)
Verdict: Hit!
I couldn’t find this exact scrub on the brand website so I linked to a similar one and used that pricing.  I love citrus and I’ve never tried a scrub with charcoal so I’m excited to add this to my routine.

Body Frosting
Whipped Shea Butter Body Frosting

(Estimated Retail: $6.00)
Verdict: LOVE!
This has all the good parts of frosting: sweet smelling creamy luxury–without any of its downfalls like stickiness (and lots of calories).  This was hands-down my favorite item in the box.  I couldn’t find this 2 oz. size so I linked to a larger one and scaled the price accordingly. It’s like marshmallow fluff that disappears into your skin. (Which sounds totally weird, but I promise its awesome).

Body Scrub
Green Tea & Cucumber Body Scrub

(Estimated Retail: $12.00)
Verdict: Like!
I couldn’t find this exact scrub either, so I’m guessing a lot of our products are exclusive to this box, which makes them even more fun. I’m working my way through a giant jar of Sabor body scrub, but I once I finish that I’ll give this one a try.  The scent of Green Tea & Cucumber seem perfectly suited to Summer.

Cuticle Softener
Cuticle Softener

(Estimated Retail: $???)
Verdict: Love!
I can’t find this at all on the website, but it’s a great product.  It’s incredibly moisturizing for your cuticles and really easy to apply.  I’ve been keeping it on my desk at home and applying it as I surf the net or work on my writing. Hopefully this product will make it on the SNNL website because I think a lot of people would love it.

ToothpasteToothpaste Open
Fluoride Free All Natural Mint Toothpaste, 4 oz

(Estimated Retail: $12.00)
Verdict: The stuff of my nightmares
While I appreciate natural products, this is possibly the hippiest product I’ve ever seen. The only thing that could make it worse was if it flavored with patchouli.  I swear I’ve had a nightmare where my toothpaste was black and made my teeth fall out. In any case, I’m guessing a lot of subscribers of organic and natural products would be interested in this, but it’s just not for me.  The included card came with directions on how to use this and frankly I found a lot of them pretty scary.  “use very little or it will be very oily” and “The paste is black, and will require you to swipe your sink out after each use”.  No, just no.  I’ll keep my fluoride filled deathpaste, thanks.

Lemon Soap
Lemon Poppyseed Handmade Soap
Orange Soap
Spiced Orange Handmade Soap

(Estimated Retail: $6.00 each)
Verdict: Like
This are really lovely handmade soaps and I think they are perfectly packaged for gift giving. I adore citrus scents so these are right up my alley.  I couldn’t find these exact soaps, so I estimated the retail based on soaps like this pumpkin one.

Lotion
Shea Butter Lotion 4.75 oz

(Estimated Retail: $10.00)
Verdict: Like!
This product had a nice consistency and wasn’t too greasy.  It’s slightly anti-climatic after the body frosting, but it’s still a nice product.  I couldn’t find this exact one on the SNNL site, so I’ve linked to a similar one.

OVERALL
Heaven's Honey May 2016

Verdict: Hit!
Even excluding the cuticle oil, this box came out an estimated retail value of $64, so it’s already well over the $49.95 price and that’s before you consider that most of these items seem to be exclusive to this sub box.  Except for the toothpaste, I really liked everything (and the body frosting was to die for).  With the exception of the aforementioned toothpaste, I think even subscribers new to natural beauty products would enjoy these products.  They felt very luxurious while still keeping their natural vibe.

What I’d like to see Heaven’s Honey do in future boxes is include a more detailed card on the contents.  I only received a card with instructions on how to use the toothpaste and sugar scrubs.  I really want a list of everything in the box, with a bit of description and why it was included.  I think it adds a lot to a subscription service when you get more info about the contents.  Still, this was a great start for a natural beauty sub!

Now let’s get to the gorgeous:
Open Box
Our theme is May Flowers:
Label

Necklace & Oil Open Necklace
Aromatherapy Diffuser Necklace
(Estimated Retail: $26.00)
Description: ”Diffuse your favorite essential oils everywhere you go!  This beautiful aromatherapy pendant necklace looks great and gives you the benefit of using essential oils without carrying and reapplying through the day.  To us, simply open the locket and drop 1 drop of your favorite essential oil onto the included felt pad.  You can replace the pad to switch oils, or when it becomes worn.”
Peace + Calm Essential Oil

(Estimated Retail: $6.00)
Description: “Peace &Calm essential oil is a gentle sweet blend of Ylang, Ylang, Geranium Lavender, Rosewood & Wild Orange. With a comforting, floral aroma, this oil creates a relaxing environment that’s especially great for home with children. You’ll love that you can use this oil for your children’s bedtime and then for yourself for a moment of quiet after the house has settled down.”
Verdict:  Love!
You know I get a lot of sub boxes, and I’ve never received anything like this.  Not only can you use essential oils on the little pad, but I tried it with my favorite perfume and it worked just as well. This is a fabulous alternative for folks with sensitive skin that loves scents – you can wear a perfume or an oil and not actually have it touch your skin.  You can also customize the color that peeks through the necklace by adding your own felt pad.  As for the oil included, it didn’t give me a headache (which is a miracle) and I found it quite pleasant. Normally I’m not a fan of Ylang Ylang, but it’s balanced out by the orange.

Glycolic Rose Peel
Glycolic Rose Peel + Mask
(Estimated Retail 2 oz: $62.00; .5 oz size included: $15.00)
Description: “This two-in-one treatment peel and mask diminishes dark spots and provides instant radiance in as little as 3 minutes.  It contains an array of powerful active ingredients – Rosa Damascena and glycolic acid-that work together to brighten, lighten, and create an even, luminous complexion.  This revitalizing peel smells of fresh roses.  With 10% glycolic acid, it is not meant for sensitive skin.“
Verdict:  Like
Peels scare me a bit and I always feel better trying them when it’s a natural product.  This states it’s not for sensitive skin but I have successfully used glycolic peels before so I do plan to try it out. The pamphlet comes with detailed instructions.  The only reason I’m giving this a “like” instead of a “hit” is because folks with more sensitive skin wouldn’t be able to use this and could miss out on one item in their box.

ShadowsSwatches
Pure Mineral Eyeshadows:

Pink Peony

(Estimated Retail: $12.00)
Description: ”Pink Peony is an invitation to grace.  Luminous and subtle, it inspires and evokes a unique facet.  The shade exudes an immediate and incredible freshness, leaving behind a soft trail of shimmer. Wear it alone for everyday or pair with the Cranberry Rose and Creeping Violet for a charmingly rich look.”
Cranberry Rose
(Estimated Retail: $12.00)
Description: ”A light balance of sweet and tart.  Lovely pink rose bus surrounded by sweet shimmer and tart cranberry make this eyeshadow both feminine and romantic.  A wonderful look for afternoon or evening.”
Creeping Violet
(Estimated Retail: $12.00)
Description: ”Creeping violet descends into a hidden labyrinth, where decadent purple gives way to darker pleasures.  Three violet tones dance with exotic shimmer and mulberry wine for creamy depth. Use as eyeshadow or mix with a few drops of water and line eyes for a seductive and enticing look.”
Verdict:
 Love!
These colors all work together and definitely fit the Flowers theme.  I love the Peony shade.  It blends in well with my skintone and works so well layered with tons of different eyeshadow colors.  The other two shades are really lovely and I definitely need to experiment with the Violet.  With my pale skin and blue undertones, purple can sometimes make me look like I was punched in the face, so I need to tread carefully.  The color is amazing though and I think it would be gorgeous on folks with darker skin.

Rose Butter Balm
Fresh Rose Butter Balm

(Estimated Retail: $18.00)
Description: “Fresh Rose Butter Balm delivers intense 24-hour moisture for normal to dry skin.  A dense, concentrated balm made with exotic Rosa damascene absolute. This soothing balm made with coconut and rose oils delivers soothing hydration wherever you need it. With its concentrated formula, a little goes a long way for petal soft skin.  Suggested Usage: apply to lips, cuticles, or even heels.  Dab on lightly over makeup to give cheeks a healthy glow.”
Verdict:  LOVE!
This is my absolute favorite item in the box.  The rose scent is natural and light. The butter balm is super hydrating, but not greasy and heavy like balms can sometimes be.  This is perfect for getting your feet ready for sandal weather.

OVERALL
Orglamix May 2016
Verdict:
Love!
The products in this box all felt perfect for Spring.  The scents were natural, light and appealing, the colors were lovely and there was a great variety including the unusual necklace. This was definitely a well curated box, and I think most subscribers would love it.  I couldn’t find any of these items on the Orglamix site yet so subscribers are also getting access to exclusive shades and products.

I received this box for free, but the regular month-to-month price is $29.00 and I thought that was an incredible value.  The estimated retail value (based on the included card) came out to $101.00.   Natural, vegan beauty products can be pricey so the value you are getting is awesome, and that’s before you factor in the creativity and exclusive items, so $29 seems like a really great deal.

The Story of Perfume box by Harvey Prince Organics: February 2016 & Promotion!

Today I’ve got something totally outside the box for me (pun intended): A perfume subscription! The wonderful folks from Harvey Prince Organics sent me their February The Story of Perfume box to review for you guys. They are also offering a special promotion for free mini perfume rollers (just pay for shipping). Jump down below for all the details.

Now the name Harvey Prince Organics might be familiar to some of you since they have popped up in a lot of Birchboxes. I’ve tried a few of their products and enjoyed them, so I was excited to see what their own box sub would have to offer.

Now first a little about what this sub includes:

To start 100% of their products are cruelty free, vegan & gluten free!

“Each monthly box comes with two private blend, luxe Harvey Prince perfumes available only in The Story of Perfume. These exclusive 7ml roller ball fragrances are made of only the finest essential oils & highest-quality natural ingredients.”

Fresh French Bergamot. Dewy Bulgarian Rose. Sensual Australian Sandalwood. Lush Italian Lemon. Sweet Japanese Sakura. Rich Assamese Oud. Spicy Kashmiri Saffron. These are just some of the notes our private blend fragrances in The Story of Perfume may contain!

Each box also has two samples from our best-selling bath, hair, & body lines. Ranging in size from 15ml to 30ml, you may receive our color-safe shampoo & conditioner, skin-softening body butter, or exfoliating shower gel, among other customer faves!

Lastly, The Story of Perfume contains two 2ml samples of our most popular luxury fragrances for women from our best-selling line of perfumes. From sweet to spicy, sensual to soothing, these perfumes will make you smell beautiful & feel happy!”

The cost of this sub is $22 a month, with a discount for purchasing a year’s subscription.

If you’re a regular reader you know I’m super sensitive to perfumes and super picky, so I’ll do my best to evaluate these on a larger scale and how I think they’d appeal to most folks.

I love love LOVE (did I say love) the style of their box. The packaging is so fairy tale appealing that it feels like a gift. They’ve already scored points with me and I haven’t even opened it up yet.

Sandalwood
Mysore Sandalwood
(7mL: $30.00)
Description: “…the scent of sweet cardamom, spicy cumin, soft clary sage, dewy rose, and soothing chamomile danced with deep cypress, clean musk, warm amber, and Mysore sandalwood notes”
Verdict: For folks that like musky, woodsy scents
I’m not a fan of musky scents and this one is a bit on the stronger side, but it’s not overpowering and I feel like it would appeal to ladies who don’t want something super sweet or floral. If you want to try this for yourself, you can get it home just for the cost of shipping. Add it to your cart and use the code EXOTICINDIA.

Kashmiri Saffron
Kashmiri Saffron
(7mL: $30.00)
Description: “Spicy!
Verdict: For the ladies that like unusual scents.
I couldn’t find this one on the website so I’m guessing it’s sold out, but I’m sure if you shoot Harvey Prince an email they will let you know if it becomes available again.  I thought this was a really unique scent and I think it will appeal to the folks that like to experiment with their beauty products.

Sincerely Body Cream
Sincerely Body Cream
(.05 oz 3.00)
Description: An intensely moisturizing and deeply nourishing blend of Shea butter and sweet almond oil, combined with extracts of French bergamot and South African freesia, Sincerely Body Cream brings out your body’s natural luster, giving you silky smooth skin all day long. Infused with Harvey Prince Sincerely perfume.”
Verdict: A sweet floral
This was a touch too floral for me personally, but I think a lot of ladies would really like this scent. I’ve tried Harvey Prince’s other body creams and found them to be quite moisturizing so I’m sure a lot of subscribers would dig this.

Eau Divine
Eau So Divine
(8.8ml: $23.00)
Description: Delicate Japanese lily, Intoxicating Moroccan Jasmine & sweet Iris softly release into the air. Warm Madagascar Vanilla, deep Indian Patchouli, Sensual Dry Woods & Clean Musk stir you with their aromatic intensity.
Verdict: Floral Musk
This is a floral musk that I think would appeal to ladies who like very feminine scents. Personally it’s not quite to my taste (I’m very anti-Patchouli) but I think this would appeal to folks that that have a bit of a bohemian sensibility.

Sincerely
Sincerely
(8.8ml: $23.00)
Description: Notes: Indonesian Clove Bud, Australian Sandalwood, Moroccan Rose, French Bergamot, Indian Tuberose, Japanese Orange Flower, Lebanese Cedarwood, Turkish Cyclamen, South African Freesia.”
Verdict: A sweet floral
This is the same scent as the lotion and I appreciate that we got two different types of items in the same scent so subscribers could layer them. As I mentioned earlier I think this is a solid scent that will appeal to a lot of women.

Keravegan
Keravegan Hair Masque
(1 oz: $3.00)
Description: Our 100% formaldehyde-free hair smoothing therapy. Transform your tresses with our nourishing and hydrating Keravegan hair masque. Made with the best organic Argan, Coconut and Sweet Almond oils + blended with Shea Butter, Papaya, Lemon and Mandarin extracts, Keravegan moisturizes and softens your hair, bringing out its natural brilliance from root to tip. Sulfate-Free + Paraben-Free.”
Verdict: My favorite item!
This is my favorite item in the box. The perfume on this product was noticeable but not overpowering and it didn’t’ stick with my hair endlessly like some over-scented hair products can do. It left my hair soft and not weighed down.

OVERALL
Harvey Prince March 2016
Verdict:
Hit!
The first thing I was impressed with (besides the gorgeous packaging) was that none of these scents had that strong synthetic give-me-a-headache-immediately issue. While a lot of the fragrances weren’t my taste, I could tell the perfumes were high quality. Each of the 7mL roller balls normally costs $30, so for $22.00 you two of them plus a wide variety of samples. I think that’s a great value. If you know someone who loves perfumes or is really into vegan/cruelty free/gluten free beauty this might be the sub for them.

SPECIAL PROMOTION!
You can get can get the Mysore Sandalwood mini roller for FREE by using the code EXOTICINDIA.   All you have to do is pay for shipping.  Just add it to your cart and apply the code!

Heaven’s Honey: New Organic Sub Box Launch & Contest!

So today instead of a full box review for you, I have news about the launch of a new natural/organic bodycare subscription called Heaven’s Honey. I know a lot of you are very interested in organic beauty products so I thought you’d love to hear more about this box.

Heaven’s Honey is unique in the organic beauty arena in that it focuses on one or two companies a month so that subscribers can get a better idea of how a product line will work for them.

So what’s in the box:
“Every month subscribers receive 5-8 quality, full/value size natural body care products for a discounted rate. 1-2 Artisan companies will be featured every month and will create a package that they feel our subscribers will love. All products will be toxin and chemical free the way your body prefers it.”

A box costs $49.95 and the retail value of the items inside will typically be between $55 to $80. Considering that organic and natural beauty products can be pricey, the higher pricepoint is understandable. Right now Heaven’s Honey is running a special contest for new subscribers. If you sign up in the first month you will be entered into a contest to potentially win 6 free months (a $300) value. There are no additional steps, it’s just a nice opportunity for folks signing up at launch.

The window to subscribe is open until March 15th and I’ve got a spoiler for the first box…
Drumroll…
heavenshoneypic
Fancy pants soap, that looks like it has cinnamon and cloves.

I’ll be reviewing the upcoming Heaven’s Honey box, so be sure to come back and see what fun new stuff is inside.

Peaches & Petals: December 2015 & 50% Off Coupon Code!

The awesome folks at Peaches & Petals, a beauty and style monthly subscription graciously sent me their December box to review plus a fabulous coupon code for you, my even more fabulous readers. Use PEACHTHERAPY for 50% off your first month’s box! (Only valid on monthly subscriptions and not gift subscriptions).

Now we start with their lovely logoed box (is logoed actually a word?) and a #TreatYoSelf theme.
Who doesn’t love a treat?
Box Open Box
Inside we reveal:
Kimono
Kimono Style Silk Peacock Robe

Description: “Your GUARANTEED spoiler for December! A beautiful silky kimono style robe. Loune around in this soft and smooth robe while you pamper yourself. One size fits most.”
Verdict: One size fits medium sized people. That’s it. Not all. Never all.
This is a pretty robe, but no way does this “fit most”. It won’t fit super tall girls, tiny girls, chubbier girls and so on. It’s a medium at best. Luckily I have someone on my Christmas list that I think would really like this and actually fit into it. For a sub box, I’d rather see items that are less size specific – there are just too many folks who wouldn’t be able to use this.

Chocolate
Lindt Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar
Description: Fancy something sweet and delectable? Sink your teeth into this piece of heaven.”
Verdict: Mmm, chocolate
This was perfectly timed since I had no food in the house and because it was Christmas time chocolate was a perfectly acceptable lunch. This was delicious!

Mineral Bath Soak
Booth Lavender Mineral Bath Soak
Description: “Tough day? Pull yourself together with a bath infused with this addictive additive. Restore yours senses with the calming lavender scent.”
Verdict: Like/Gift
This fits perfectly with the “treat yorself” theme. I like lavender but unfortunately I don’t get to take too many baths and have quite a stockpile of products so I’m going to pass this along to my Mom who could use as many “calming” influences as possible.

Jewelry Earrings
Necklace Close 1 Necklace Close 2 Necklace Close 3
Emerald Necklace & Earring Jewelry Set

Description: Dazzle your holiday parties with this pair! It’s green and it goes with the season!”
Verdict: Love!
I love the style of this necklace – it’s got a great Art Deco vibe and it’s not so showy that you can’t wear it with more casual outfits. The quality on this set is on par with what I’ve gotten from Modcloth or Charming Charlie and this is definitely my favorite item in the box.

Mask
Spa Bella Hot or Cold Rejuvenating Eye Mask

Description: Say NO to dark circles and baggy eyes! The holidays are draining, but keep your look fresh and rejuvenated,’cause nobody has to know.
Verdict: Hit/Gift!
I thought this was a perfect match for the robe so instead of keeping it for myself, I’ll be adding it to that for a Christmas gift.

OVERALL
Peaches & Petals 12.2015
Verdict:
Like
I received this box for free for review purposes and its normal cost is $14.99. I think it had a great value for the cost.  My only issue with it at all is that the peacock robe is quite size specific and would not fit a majority of the population. To Peaches & Petals credit, they released the kimono as a spoiler so folks who bought this box knew what they’d be getting. Last month’s felt a bit unfocused but this month the theme was super cohesive and I could see a lot of subscribers really loving this. If you’re looking for a low cost style box, definitely consider Peaches & Petals.

Description: “Your GUARANTEED spoiler for November! A beautiful fall scarf, perfect for any autumn occasion.
Verdict: Gift
This scarf is very soft and quite lovely. Thanks to my sub box addiction, I have an impressive stockpile of scarves in my closet, so this is going to make someone a lovely Christmas Gift.

Pantene
Pantene Pro-V Shampoo & Conditioner Travel Set
Description: The perfect hair pair on your next weekend getaway!.”
Verdict: Did Walmart have a sale?
A travel hair set is a great idea for the holiday season, but Pantene is available at just about every drugstore or chain store for like $2. A more interesting or unusual brand would have been a more appropriate choice.

Candle
Sweet Treat Dessert Candle

Description: ”Cute food with a double personality! Sure to make you smile!
Verdict: A trip to the dollar store?
A cupcake candle could be cute but this one is on the cheap side and the packaging is cracked. It could be a cute little stocking stuffer but I’m not feeling like this is a good item for a women’s beauty and style box.

Cards
Thank You Cards

Description: Take a moment to say a few words of gratitude to the people in your life. This simple act, can bring a smile to a friend’s face that they’ll never forget.”
Verdict: Hit!
I keep a stockpile of greeting cards, and thank you cards tend to be the most useful. I like the vintage chalk graphic on these and I’ll definitely use them. I also like that they go with the “Thanksgiving” season.

Bracelet
Infinity Forever Bracelet

Description: An understated beauty that falls effortlessly on your wrist.”
Verdict: Lovely design, cheap fabrication
I really like the infinity design on this, but I feel like with simple jewelry you really need high quality materials and it’s clear this is a cheap piece of jewelry. Perhaps excluding some of the other items and putting in a gold plated, silver plated or even a stainless steel piece might have been a better option.

Totally Adorable Tea Infusers
Description: Warm cold mornings and nights with a cup of hot tea. This item will surely be your favorite tea pal.”
Verdict: Gift
I’m not much of a tea drinker so this will end up being gifted. I’m not sure how this item really fits into the aesthetic Peaches & Petals is going for, but it’s cute and practical.

OVERALL
Peaches & Petals November 2015
Verdict:
A bit of an identity crisis, but has potential

I received this box for free for review purposes and its normal cost is $14.99. I do think the scarf itself is worth that much, but unfortunately a lot of the other items seem to be really inexpensive and don’t necessarily go with the theme or the aesthetic this sub seems going for. If I were curating, I would include the scarf, the cards and find a bracelet that uses higher end materials and just include 3 items. Or perhaps as my third item, find a more luxurious travel hair and beauty set to include. As far as beauty and style subs go, this is one of the less expensive options so despite the uneven curation, you may want to give it a shot.

Next month’s spoiler is a kimono so if you like it and want to subscribe, use PEACHTHERAPY for 50% off your first month’s box.

Inside our box is a handy sheet describing the scents and some adorably packaged bars.  Also included with each bar is a list of ingredients.

Summer Citrus
Summer Citrus
(Full Size Retail: $6.99)
Description: “This soap is everything good about summer. Start your morning with a soap that smells like a tall glass of cold lemonade, fresh ripe oranges and a thick slice of key lime pie all in one!”
Verdict: Hit!
Citrus scents are my favorite, especially in shower products so this one is a win for me.

Blueberry
Blueberry Scrub
(Full Size Retail: $6.99)
Description: “June is right in the middle of Blueberry season, and there’s nothing like snacking on some fresh blueberries under the warm summer sun. This blueberry scrub bar also contains sea salt and oatmeal for a deep scrub in the shower! This soap matches perfectly with the sweet and tart summer citrus bar.”
Verdict: Hit!
I adore scrub bars because they are an easy way to exfoliate in the shower. I’m also really fond of fruit scented shower products so this one was another great addition.

Cucumber Melon
Cucumber Melon
(Full Size Retail: $6.99)
Description: “Cool as a cucumber is a saying for a reason. Stay cool in June with our refreshing cucumber melon soap packed with the smell of THE summer fruit. Its beautiful white and dark green swirls also look great in any bathroom display or by the sink.”
Verdict: Hit!
Cucumber is always a fresh clean scent and is one of my favorites when the temperatures start to rise. Another great pick.

Cotton Blossom
Cotton Blossom (Full Size Retail: $6.99)
Description: “Cotton blossom is a classic scent of soap that most people will I nstnatly recognize. It has a strong and instantly invigorating scent that smells like fresh linens! Use it in the shower to wake you up smelling great or use it to freshen up a room.”
Verdict: Miss
Unfortunately this one was is a big miss for me. It’s just way too strong. It kind of reminded me of the scent of Irish Spring (which always  gives me headaches). I’m going to have to pass this along to someone who prefers a stronger soap and who’s bathroom I won’t be going to regularly.

Verdict:
Hit!
I really enjoy trying natural and handmade products and I loved the scents on all but one of these soaps. The packaging on them was quite lovely, making the sampler nice for gifting.  Changing your soap scents seasonally is a fun idea and one that I plan to adopt asap. Clean Bar Box offers several different sizes of boxes, but I like this monthly half size box because you can sample all the seasonal scents and then order your favorites in a regular size from their store. I received this box for free, but the regular cost is $14.99 (which includes shipping). That’s a touch high but these are all natural, handmade specialty soaps so I think the cost is justified and I’d be fine in paying that amount for this box. You can also lower the cost by prepaying several months in advance.

So do you change up your soap and toiletry scents by season?

Adore Box: May 2015

I’ve got something really special for you guys today. A new box. A new beauty box.  Oh and did I mention it only costs $15 per month? I knew that last bit would get your attention.
Box
So the wonderful folks at Adore Box. sent me their beauty box to review. Each box is handpicked & shipped by one of their specialists and while boxes have similar items, not every box is the same.

Adore Box is a smaller sub and is currently sold out of subscriptions, but you can shoot them an email to get on their waiting list. They also offer the option to buy products from their boxes through their sister company Divine & Sexy. Use the code ADORE at checkout for 30% off the entire website. Now let’s check out the goodies.

Eye Contour
Oli Anti-Aging Eye Contour Cream
(20 ml/.7 fl oz)

(Sale Price: $5.99)
Description: “Oli Anti-Aging Eye Contour Cream. Enriched with olive oil. All eyes will be on your eyes! This delicate cream stimulates cell regeneration, minimizes dark circles, relieves puffiness and prevents those age-revealing lines. This silky formula is lightweight and soothing. Made in Spain.”
Verdict: Love!
I’m obsessed with trying out eye creams and I love that this includes olive oil and is made in Spain. I get a lot of Korean and US made skincare and makeup, so it’s always a treat to try some made in Europe. And if I fall in love with this product, it’s an affordable item to add into my beauty routine.

Puff
Wonderpuff Deep Exfoliating Cleansing Puff

(Sale Price: $2.99)
Description: Wonder Puff is a deep cleansing and exfoliating puff. This facial sponge is made of polyester fiber. When used with your favorite soap, it is excellent for removing dead skin cells and the dirt and oil trapped underneath the skin layers. Use this as a part of a daily regiment, it helps give your skin a healthier and younger look.”
Verdict: Hit!
This is a practical addition and I may actually end up using this to exfoliate my legs and arms (hello summer). Again, this is a nice item at a lower price point which is great for the gals with a tight beauty budget.

Liner Tip
Swatch
DMG Eye & Lip Liner (.6 g/.021 oz)
(Sale Price: $2.50)
Description: DMG Retractable Eyeliner in Black. Long wear, long lasting eyeliner”
Verdict: Miss
The card says that this is also a lip liner, but the website says it’s just an eyeliner. I tend to side with the website, since there is no way you could use this color on your lips and not look insane. The color payoff on this eyeliner is great—it’s a deep rich black, but it smears hella easy. It’s inexpensive but I have super oily lids and it wouldn’t last two minutes on me.

Nails
L’Oreal Colour Riche NailLIngerie (18 stickers)

(Amazon Price: $3.94)
Description: These 3d nail jewels come in different colors and patterns to be layered with any nail color for a sophisticated sparkle effect. Designed for the nail novice, they require no dry time and offer mistake-proof application.”
Verdict: Love!
I absolutely adore the style of these nail decals. Glitter gradient manis pop up all over Pinterest and I’ve been dying to try them out except I’m too impatient and messy. These are a perfect alternative to trying to actually do the nail art myself.

Bio Firm
Prada Bio-Firm Concentrate
(1.3 ml/.4 fl oz)

(Sale Price: $5.99)
Description: Transform your skin to be supple and glowing with this intensive age-fighting formula. Prada Reviving Bio-Firm is a concentrate that contains potent levels of the antiaging Bio-Firm complex, which includes marine-based and lab-synthesized collagen boosters, collagen and elastin firming compounds, and epidermal defenders. This lightweight, instantly-absorbing serum—which also contains a bio-available mineral complex and plant-sourced essential fatty acids—helps plump and visibly re-tighten the skin for a smoother, more resilient glow. It’ll help fight visible signs of aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity, for that radiant complexion you crave. Potent levels of natural marine collagen protein and elastin derived from mollusk filaments intensely firm and lift the skin.”
Verdict: Hit
This is a super small size, but Prada is expensive so this a great chance to try something that might normally be way out of budget, plus the Divine & Sexy site offers the ability to keep buying the small, budget price sample size. I always love trying fancy pants skincare so this addition was great for me.

Serum
Dr. Rey Severe Line Refine Serum
(10 ml/.34 oz)

(Sale Price: $3.99)
Description: ”Dr.Rey Sensual Solutions Severe Line Refine Wrinkle Smoother. Dramatically reduce wrinkles and large pores around your eyes, brows, lip and nose with this great serum. Fortified with yeast extract and hydrolyzed soy protein that targets the cell layer between the epidermis and dermis, helps to repair tissue and strengthen the skins architecture. Clinical studied with 80% showing less lines and wrinkles.”
Verdict: On the Fence
I like trying out new serums, but this one felt a bit too drying for my taste. I only used it a couple times so it may improve with more usage, but I think this is geared more toward the folks with oily skin.

Mascara
Prestige Mascara & Matching Eyeliner
( .12 ml/.r fl oz & 1.08 g//.035 oz)

(Sale Price: $9.00)
Description: Dramatic color, volume, and length with just one stroke. True black pigment. No clumps, no flaking, no smudging. You’ll love your eyes with this set!”
Verdict: Like/Gift
So as a sub box junkie, I’m swimming in black mascara. I do appreciate that this little set came with a “carbon brown” eyeliner. Black eyeliners are a staple of beauty boxes so any time we get a different shade, it’s a plus.

Verdict:
Hit!

I really liked that this box included a wide variety of items in different price ranges. I know many folks can’t afford to buy high priced skincare, so it’s nice to have a sub box option that introduces $5.99 eye creams rather than $30 ones.   I received this box for free, but at $15 I do think it was a great value. Excluding the chocolate, I received $25.40 of items and  got the opportunity to try some new brands and products.

If you’re looking for a bargain sub and are a bit tired of Birchbox and Ipsy, definitely consider Adore Box.

New Beauty Test Tube: January 2015 & 30% off!

I know that February has been a slow month here at Subscription Therapy. I’ve been dealing with work deadlines, a few illnesses and a wonky digital camera. But I have tons of new boxes to share with you so March should get us right back into our groove. The first new box is from New Beauty Test Tube who graciously sent me a box to review. (Follow my link for 30% off your subscription.)

I’d seen a lot of other bloggers talk about this box so I was very excited to try it out for myself.
“TestTube is an exclusive, one-of-a-kind sampling program enabling members the opportunity to try a variety of the latest breakthrough beauty products before investing in them, and then share their feedback about the products. Six times a year, for just $29.95 (plus shipping and handling), subscribers receive a TestTube filled with deluxe and full-size products from the hottest beauty brands. Dermalogica
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant (.45 oz)

(Deluxe Sample Value: approx.: $8.97 Full Size 2.6 fl oz: $52.00)
Description: Rejuvenate your complexion with this gentle exfoliating powder that activates the second it touches water. Thanks to salicylic acid and rice enzymes, this top-selling microfoliant rids skin of dead cells and perfectly polishes any and all skin conditions.
Verdict: Like
Dermalogica is a high end skin care brand that I’ve actually tried out in a spa before. I know a ton of people that swear by it, especially those with skin allergies. I exfoliate regularly so this will definitely get used.

Dry ShampooKlorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk (1 oz)
(Deluxe Sample Value: approx.: $5.94; Full Size 3.2 oz: $19.50)
Description: Whether you have superthick or ultrafine hair, extend and refresh the life of your blowouts with this instant dry shampoo that revives lifeless, oil locks in less than two minutes.”
Verdict: Hit!
I have oily roots and when you couple that with constantly wearing knit hats (thank you Old Man Winter) my scalp is an oil slick. Klorane is one of the few dry shampoo brands that I have yet to try so I’m happy to find this item in the box.

eraclea
Eraclea Ever-Moist Lip Balm (.35 fl oz)

(Full Size 4 oz: $16.00)
Description: Thanks to a high concentration of emollient ingredients, dry, distressed lips don’t stand a chance against this moisturizing lip treatment.”
Verdict: Like
This winter you really can’t hoard enough lip balms. This brand is completely new to me so I’m interested to see how it stacks up against the other balms I’ve tried. This is listed as a full size product on the New Beauty insert, but a full size is listed as 4 oz while my tube says 3.5 oz. It does appear to be a quite large for a balm so I’ll consider this one as “full size”. The scent is sweet, almost like a fruity cotton candy and it goes on easily. It’s not at all goopy or sticky and the consistency was near perfect. I found that it hydrated my lips quite well. The only thing I don’t really like about this product is the look of the packaging. It feels a bit too clinical for my taste (which made the sweet fun scent all the more surprising). I’m not sure I’d pay $16 for this, but I really do like it.

Chi
Chi Argan Oil Plus Moringa Oil (3 oz)

(Full Size 3 oz: $22.00)
Description: Create healthier hair with this lightweight moisturizing oil that also doubles as a protectant against thermal styling and UV rays.”
Verdict: Like
Hair oils have been on trend for a while now and they are a great way to combat dry hair due to things like heat styling. Chi is a well known brand for hair tools and products and this is a full size so the value is there. I don’t heat style my hair too frequently but I’ve been growing my hair out so I’ll use this on the tips to keep split ends at bay.

Oil
Balanced Guru No Frizz Oil (.5 oz)

(Deluxe Sample Value: approx.: $13.00; Full Size 1 oz: $25.00)
Description: Reduce frizz and add shine for more manageable hair with just a couple of drops of this silicone-free oil. No matter the climate, you can finally fight frizz—for good.”
Verdict: Hmm, why another oil?
So this is an new brand for me, and according to their company blurb they are certified organic, cruelty-free and environmentally sustainable. Now this hair oil is used to fight frizz. The New Beauty folks must think we all have super dry hair, because this is our 2nd hair oil in the same box.   The Chi is full sized and this product is actually pretty generously sized as well and sells for $13 on its own. The item is nice, but I think it would have been better to include something different and perhaps move one of the oils to another mailing.

Nail Dryer
Color Club Dry Ice Drops (.5 oz)

(Full Size .5 oz: $11.00)
Description: These fast-drying formulas dry your polish faster than ever before for your shiniest nails yet. Whether used together or applied separately, your fingernails will thank you.”
Verdict: Love!
This is another full size item and while I’ve tried Color Club polish before I’ve never tried any of their standard manicure products like topcoats or drying drops. I think drying drops are a great addition to the box since I know a lot of women who aren’t familiar with them, but are amazed at how much easier their manicures go once they finally do try them.

Now these next two products weren’t listed on the insert, so I’m guessing they vary from subscriber to subscriber.

LinerSharpener
Liner TipSwatch
YBF Plum Noir Eye Liner

(Full Size: ???)
Description: Your plum noir eye liner is the perfect deep plum hue! You will love the built in sharpener cap too!
Verdict: Miss
To start I couldn’t find this eyeliner available for sale on its own, so I have no idea how to estimate the value. The only place I could find it was inside YBF’s “sultry eyes & lips collection”. I have a highlighter from YBF that I use regularly so I’m familiar with the brand and I do like their products. The good points for this eyeliner were that it went on smoothly and didn’t smear. Unfortunately the color is not plum noir, this color is purplish red. As a pale redhead this will make me look like I’m possessed by a demon, or at the very least like I have pink eye. The only folks that I think could potentially pull off this shade would be those with a darker complexion, and even then I’m not convinced. I’m going to try to pass this along to a friend because it’s a nice formula with a built in sharpener, but I’m not sure anyone could pull off this color.

Algenist
Algenist Firming & Lifting Cream (.5 oz)

(Deluxe Sample Value: approx.: $23.50; Full Size 2 oz: $94.00)
Description: An ultra-firming and restructuring cream that tightens and lifts while reinforcing skin structure.”
Verdict: Love!
Algenist is a brand I’ve seen around and never tried because it’s pretty pricey. I can always use a little extra “firming and lifting” so I’m excited to try this one out. The deluxe sample is quite generous and I think there is definitely enough product for me to get an accurate idea of how it will work for my skin.

OVERALL
Full Box
Verdict:
Hit!

So I got this box for free, but it would normally cost $29.95 plus shipping. Not including the YBF liner that I couldn’t find a price for, we received $100.41 worth of product. The box included four full size items and four generously sized deluxe samples. Except for the liner in the crazy shade, all the items were super practical and something I think most women could use in their beauty regimes. This box feels a bit more mature and I think it will appeal to a lot of ladies in the 30+ group that maybe aren’t so keen on getting items like body glitter and neon polish in their beauty boxes. Beauty Test Tube seems to be focused more on the practical beauty finds rather then the uber trendy.

Besides the color of the liner and the fact that this one box included two hair oils, I had no other problems with it. Because I have so much volume in beauty products, I probably won’t subscribe to this regularly, however it’s definitely on my list if I opt to cancel some of my other beauty subs.

If you like Birchbox but maybe aren’t interested in super small samples or are overwhelmed with a monthly box, this might be a good option for you. While the cost is a bit higher than Birchbox or Ipsy, you are getting a lot more product and it’s arriving every 2 months, instead of monthly.
