Jennifer Love Hewitt Fancy Box: March 2014

So once again it’s time for my most unpredictable box: the Jennifer Love Hewitt Fancy Box. I never have a clue what might show up and that certainly keeps things exciting.
Once again that familiar Fancy square.

Pallete
Color Eye Palette by Cargo Cosmetics (Fancy Retail: $30.00)
Verdict: Hit!
I am always looking for eye shadows that will work with my complexion and this palette has some nice neutral shades. I’ve never tried this brand before so it will be fun to experiment with them. My one issue with it was that the packaging was super dingy. The outside plastic cover was really dirty and the inside palette looked like it’d been in the bottom of a messy makeup drawer for a while. The palette is unused but I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving it as a gift or trading it, but since I’m using it I’ll just give it a wipe down before I add it to my beauty case.

SunglassesTitanic Sunglasses by AJ Morgan (Fancy Retail: $25.00)
Verdict: Love!
Fancy has sent me a lot of sunglasses, but these are my favorite so far. I love the shape and the color is whimsical. I’ll definitely be using these this season.

Bracelet
Heart On My Sleeve Bracelet (Fancy Retail: $29.00)
Verdict: Like!
This bracelet is 14K gold fill and delicate. It’s not something I would have chosen for myself because it reads a little ordinary for my taste, but it is a great layering piece for  the bracelets I’ve been receiving in all my boxes so I’m sure I’ll get a lot of use out of it.  According to the Fancy site it’s engraveable so if you order this you can fancy it up with the initial of your choice.

Bag
Waldo Pancake Washbag (Fancy Retail: $18.00)
Verdict: Hit!
Ah, I only wish my bathroom was big enough to dance in. Along with tote bags I tend to hoard makeup bags and I love this one. It’s just a great size and shape for fitting all kinds of odds and ends. Right now it’s become a fashionable little file folder for all the cards and info that come with these products I review. Next week maybe it will hold some hair products from my VIB Sephora haul.

Hit!

I paid full price for this box ($46.95 with shipping) and the estimated retail value is $102.00. I really liked all the times and I know I will use them.
A lot of the Jennifer Love Hewitt bags have felt like they didn’t suit her style, but this one totally feels like items that JLove would wear or use herself. I’m very happy with this box and I hope the next one is just as great.

What did you think of this box? Did it feel like Jennifer Love Hewitt’s style to you?

March 2014: Fancy Mystery Box

Fancy Box

Remember those Fancy mystery boxes I mentioned??  Well I finally got mine.  Now let’ see what type of random shows up in my box.
Open Open 2

ID Holder
LAEX Fancy ID Holder
(Fancy Retail: $30.00)
Verdict:  Miss/Repeat
I received this ID holder in a previous box and wasn’t too psyched about it then either.  I still have the old one just waiting to be gifted, so I’ll probably just keep this one for my special occasion purses that are too small for a wallet.  I don’t’ know where Fancy comes up with the value for some things, but there is no place that has ever existed where this is worth $30. It’s just a plastic ID holder with the words “Foolish” on it.  I guess the foolish part is for anyone stupid enough to pay $30.00 for it.

Polish
China Glaze Polish in Platinum Silver (Fancy Retail: $8.00)
Verdict:  Miss/Gift
I’ve never tried China Glaze and if the color had been a little more interesting I would have been excited for this.  With spring finally arriving and all the cool new colors, this silver isn’t compelling.  I have too many similar shades so I’ll gift or trade this one.

 Decal
Work Hard, Stay Humble Wall Sticker (Fancy Retail: $20.00)
Verdict: Miss
So I don’t like the font, I don’t like the saying and there’s no way this is worth $20.00.  If you did any searching for spoilers on this box, you will see that many, many people got this decal and many, many people hate it.  I guess the good thing I can say about it is that  it’s something I haven’t received in a previous Fancy box.  That’s pretty much it.

Notebooks
Fancy Notebooks
(Fancy Retail:$12)
Verdict: Miss/Repeat
I’ve gotten these before.  I love blank notebooks and I’m sure I’ll use these or pass them along, but they’re  just not that interesting and I certainly wouldn’t pay $6 a piece for them.  Still, I like them the most out of everything in this box.

So basically it looks like Fancy is sending out the crap leftover after they finished putting together their 2013 boxes.  Now I’ve googled other Fancy mystery boxes and this one seems to pop up quite a lot, but there are others and they are much cooler (although that’s not saying much).  The cost of this box was only $10, but the shipping was $7.95.  According to Fancy, the items valued $70, but according to real people this crap wouldn’t be over $20. I had some Fancy credits so I only ended up paying only $1.95.  I’m still annoyed though because half the stuff in this box I got in my regularly priced boxes so I’ve paid twice now for the same level of suckage.

If you’re a regular Fancy subscriber don’t bother picking this up.  You’ll most likely get repeats.  If you’ve been wanting to try Fancy, I’d say take the gamble.  Fancy is really a hit or miss box, and the mystery boxes seem to follow the pattern of their regular subscription, but just at a much lower price. If you happen to love decals, go for it.  The odds are ever in your favor.

Did you pick up a Fancy mystery box?  If so, what did your mystery reveal?

Original Fancy Box: March 2014

So last month I was  disappointed in my original Fancy box because all the items seemed to fall under the category of “women.” I had my fingers crossed that this month would prove to have a more eclectic mix of surprises. Let’s dive into the March box and see what’s what…

Box

So despite last month’s mysterious rectangle box, Fancy has returned once again to their big square boxes to house just a couple of small items.

Book
Shake: A New Perspective on Cocktails (Fancy Retail: $25.00)
Verdict: Hit!
I have a million cookbooks and not a single one devoted to cocktails, so I was psyched to see this. It’s got beautiful pictures on every page and the first section gives you guidance on how to stock a bar. The recipes are broken up seasonally and the emphasis is on including fresh ingredients. As a warning this is a hipster cocktail book so most of the recipes have some unusual ingredients, or liquors that you might not necessarily have lying around your house. This is a great find for folks that want to try something different with their cocktails and love utilizing seasonal ingredients. I’m excited to try out some of these drinks the next time I have friends over.

Mason
Mason Shaker (Fancy Retail: $28.00)
Verdict: Hit!
Fancy is really working hard to turn me into an alcoholic. This shaker is roomy enough to make a few cocktails at once and I adore the rustic design. It was the perfect partner for cocktail book and I know I’ll get plenty of use out of it. Now I just need to get myself a bar so I can put all the cocktail paraphernalia Fancy sends me away.

 Light
Bottle Light LED Cork (Fancy Retail: $15.00)
Verdict: Love!
Continuing on the boozy theme we have this little bottle light. I know it’s a little cheesy but I love this thing. I have some really pretty cobalt blue bottles I’ve saved and I think this light will look amazing inside. It’ll be perfect to put on the picnic table for summer barbeques.

 Notes
SMS Sticky Notes (Fancy Retail:$7.00)
Verdict: Hit!
So while I wouldn’t shell out $7.00 for these cute post-it notes, I really like them. They’ll be perfect for marking up my favorite cookbooks, catalogs and magazines with notes.

Tray
Change Trays by Blue & Cream (Fancy Retail:$45.00)
Verdict: Hit!
I love quotes and Oscar Wilde (and Oscar Wilde quotes, of course) so I loved this little tray. It can sit on your desk for paper clips, on a bathroom sink for guest soaps, in your living room for candy or on your dresser for jewelry. It’s a really versatile piece and I’m happy I got this particular one. I don’t think it’s worth anything close to $45.00 since it feels a bit on the flimsy side, but it’s a wonderful addition to this box.

Love!
Fancy has really improved since last month and I really love this box. Including shipping, I paid $46.95 for this box. The items I received had an estimated retail of $120.00 and I will use all of them.

I think this was a great box for Fancy and the perfect fit for the brand. It features fun quirky items that would appeal to a lot of people and aren’t just things you can order on Amazon. I do think Fancy inflates the retail prices a bit, but for what I paid I think the items were fabulous.

Now onto some breaking FANCY NEWS!
Fancy has started offering Mystery Boxes! They are only $10 (plus $7.95 in shipping). The two options are Men’s and Women’s.

You know I can’t resist a Mystery so I snagged one for myself and will have that review up soon so if you want to see which Fancy mystery shows up at my doorstep, be sure to come back.
