Popsugar: July 2017 Must Have + November & Neiman Marcus LE Box Spoilers!

Happy Halloween!  The scariest thing I have going on today is how far behind I am in my boxes.  As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve got the next few weeks to catch up on my blogging, so today, we’re going back a bit to my July Popsugar review, but I’ve also got a bunch of great spoilers for November and for the uber luxe Neiman Marcus box. Before we get to the goods, I wanted to mention a new feature Popsugar has added.  Subscribers now have the option of adding on additional items at a discount from featured brands.  They’ve included makeup from Smith & Cult and accessories like socks.  Next month, I’ll actually remember to get more details to share.

Now enough chatter, let’s get to the boxes!

MUST HAVE X NEIMAN MARCUS BOX SPOILERS
Must Have x Neiman Marcus
Description: “We’ve teamed up with Neiman Marcus to give you a covetable box filled with treats ideal for gifting or for keeping all to yourself. This box is filled with over $750 worth of luxurious items you need for the holidays from sparkling home decor to beauty gifts that will make you glow.   Select between gold or silver hues to get a box shining with your preferred color delivered right to your door. Each box will contain all of the same items, but the color of 5 of the 9 products will vary based on your metallic preference.“
Cost: $250.00
Boxes will be shipped by November 27.

We’ve got two spoilers and both seem worthy of such a high priced box.  This time around, Popsugar is letting you choose between silver and gold themes for your fancy pants Neiman Marcus box.  YSL is a lovely makeup brand that feels luxurious and I like that the jewelry sets are both glamorous and understated.  You can easily wear them year-round.  Currently, my budget is a bit too tight for this box, but if you have the funds, you may want to give it a chance.

NOVEMBER MUST HAVE SPOILERS
NOVEMBER BOX

So we’ve got Anna Faris’ new book showing up in our November boxes.  I’m not quite sure how I feel about that.  I’m not much of nonfiction reader, and celebrity memoir/self-help type things are usually at the bottom of my book pile.  Still, I’ll try to keep an open mind.

JULY MUST HAVE BOX
Ocean Tribe by Turkish-T Kilim Towel

(Suggested Retail: $49.00)
Description: “Whether you’re enjoying a concert or having a picnic, this chic towel will become one of your most used accessories. It’s made of 100% Turkish cotton, so you and your loved ones can enjoy the sun-filled forecast comfortably.”
Verdict: Love!
Popsugar has given towels like this out in the past and they are so lovely.  This one is a perfect match for the little blue bathroom in my new house.

Supergoop!® Super Power Sunscreen Mousse SPF 50
(Suggested Retail: $19.00)
Description: Don’t forget to stay protected while soaking up the sun! This new whipped formula from Supergoop! is filled with moisturizing ingredients and antioxidant-packed blue sea kale and has SPF 50 so your skin will stay safe and hydrated.”
Verdict:
Like
I’m not a big fan of Supergoop!, however I do need a high spdf and I’ve never tried a “mousse” sunblock before so I’m happy to test this one out.

ban.dō Sip Sip Tumbler
(Suggested Retail: $14.00)
Description: ”’ Consider sipping on your favorite fruity drink (or cocktail) with a brightly hued tumbler adorned with a cute saying: “free refills.” Hydrating while unwinding on your new Turkish-T towel guarantees a great mood.”
Verdict: Gift
I have so many different kinds of water bottles and reusable cups thanks to my subscription box addiction so I’m going to gift this to a friend.

Tarte Cosmetics Lights, Camera, Splashes™ Waterproof Mascara
(Suggested Retail: $23.00)
Description:  “Ensure that your lashes stay volumized and lengthened through your active schedule with an incredible mascara that won’t budge.”
Verdict: Anti-climactic
If you subscribe to beauty and lifestyle boxes, you will get plenty of black mascara so this is pretty “eh” on the interesting scale, however Tarte is a good, sturdy brand and waterproof mascara is perfect for a July box.  I think what would have been more interesting is if we’d seen a blue mascara.

SISTERS OF LOS ANGELES California Fireplace Matchesa
(Suggested Retail: $10.00)
Description: “A warm night around a BBQ or a bonfire is a sure way to make lasting memories. These superlong matches come in a colorful case to match your stylish decor and make late-night gathering for feasting on s’mores even easier.”
Verdict: Hit!
I’ve got two fireplaces so these will definitely come in handy.

Snyder’s of Hanover® Wholey Cheese! Smoked Gouda
(Suggested Retail: $3.69)
Description: Pass around this bag of baked crackers and prepared to be wowed! The crackers taste like gouda and are made without artificial flavors. It’s obvious these crackers were baked with cheesy passion and love! Share with friends, or keep them all to yourself (we won’t judge).”
Verdict: Like
These crackers were tasty and a nice alternative to fried snacks.

OVERALL:
Verdict: Like
Now this wasn’t the most exciting box, since reusable cups/bottles and mascara are sub box staples, but I thought it fit the July theme really well.  The estimated retail on this came out a little low at $118.69.  I paid $42.70, and I loved the towel and will use nearly all the other items, but I do feel like, the box could have used a little something else to round it out.  Maybe a smores related treat to tie into the summer and the matches?  Or perhaps a spf lip balm? In any case, I’m not disappointed, but I’d like to see more creativity and a slightly higher value in future boxes.

I’ve got lots more box reviews coming up including a mystery game box!

Popsugar: June 2017 Must Have + September Spoiler & Fall Limited Edition Spoilers!

So I’m still recovering from Labor Day, which was aptly named since it was my day of manual labor.  It was like an episode of “This Old House” where I paint all the dirty white things, bright new white.  Not the most riveting of renovations, which is probably why I don’t have my own HGTV show yet.  But eventually, (as God is my witness), I will have some cool renovation posts for you.  In the meantime, it’s time for some fun with boxes.  Today I’ve got my June Popsugar review and a hell of a lot of spoilers for their September Must Have box and their Fall Limited Edition.

Let’s jump right in.

FALL LIMITED EDITION SPOILERS
Fashion:
Skincare:

Jewelry:
Limited Edition Fall
Description: “Ready to change up and revitalize your routine? This box is filled of over $450 worth of luxurious items that will have you feeling stylish and cozy all Fall long. Prepare to channel your inner street style star with cutting-edge products for every part of your life.”
Cost: $100.00
Quantities are limited, so don’t delay! Boxes will be shipped by Sept. 21.

This box is still available so if you’re loving all the spoilers, you can still nab one for yourself.  Unfortunately I’m on a tight budget so I’m just sticking to my monthly must have subscription.

SEPTEMBER MUST HAVE SPOILERS
Theme
Makeup
SEPTEMBER BOX
Based on the theme I’m thinking we’re going to see some cool weather accessories.  I’m super super psyched for the lipstick queen cheek stain.  I’m a huge fan of their products and it seems like something fun to try out.  I’m also happy to try out a new primer since it’s a fairly recent edition to my makeup bag and I’m still experimenting with different brands and types.

Now onto the main attraction…

JUNE MUST HAVE BOX

Billabong Aloha Forever Trucker Hat
(Suggested Retail: $17.95)
Description: “Keep your face out of the harmful rays while trying out the easy-to-wear trucker hat trend. This sporty cap will have you saying “Aloha” to even more oceanside activities.”
Verdict: Gift
I love hats, but I’m not a baseball hat type of girl.  I passed this along to a friend who I thought would enjoy it.

Captain Blankenship Mermaid Sea Salt Hair Spray
(Suggested Retail: $24.00)
Description: Effortlessly style your hair with a sea salt spray that will add waves so gorgeous even a mermaid would be jealous. The organic ingredients like aloe vera and sea kelp extract will nourish your locks naturally without feeling crunchy.”
Verdict:
LOVE!
I’ve received a small bottle of this in a long ago Birchbox and I adored it.  It’s my favorite sea salt spray and one of my favorite hair products ever.  Definitely the highlight of my box.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid
(Suggested Retail: $15.04)
Description: ”’ There’s nothing better than a juicy beach read. Taylor Jenkins Reid’s latest novel is full of intrigue, emotional twists, and Hollywood glamour, making it easy to get lost in while soaking up the rays.”
Verdict: Like
Sorry, for some reason I’m missing my pic of this one.  This book is going to fit one of my 2017 Popsugar Book Challenge categories (the “A book that takes place over a character’s life span slot”, for those interested), so I’m happy with the inclusion.

ALOHA Collection Mid-Size Ocean Coco Palms Pouch
(Suggested Retail: $36.00)
Description: Pack your waterside essentials in this splash-proof zip pouch. The print will encourage you to get on island time and will protect your snacks, sea salt spray, and hat. You can also use it to store your wetsuit, dirty gym clothes, or other essentials as you run around town.”
Verdict: Gift
I think this is a great addition for a summer box, but I just don’t go to the beach or the pool regularly so this will be wasted on me. I have a friend going on a lovely Caribbean trip, so I’ll pass this along to her.

NCLA So Rich — Mermaid Tears
(Suggested Retail: $18.00)
Description: “Keep your nails from getting dried out on sandy and chlorine-filled days with this azure-hued cuticle oil that smells like honeysuckle. The vitamin E extract blended with sunflower seed oil will bring tears of joy to your tips.”
Verdict: Love!
First let’s give some props to the NCLA marketing team, because who doesn’t want a treatment called “mermaid tears”.  Putting that aside, you know that I’m a polish hoarder, er collector, so this is right up my alley. NCLA is a great brand and a bit spendy for me at the moment, so I’m very happy to have this in my box.  It’s also nice that even subscribers who aren’t nail polish aficionados can use this cuticle oil treatment.

Belgian Boys ® Mini Cookie Stash
(Suggested Retail: .99)
Description: “While sporting your new trucker hat, channel your inner class clown by taking selfies with these adorable (and extremely delicious) mustache cookies. They’re a fun-filled and portable snack to take with you on your sunny-day adventures.”
Verdict: Okay
These cookies were tasty enough. No super awesome taste sensations or anything, but perfectly satisfactory.

Meri Meri Blue and White Party Straws
(Suggested Retail: 3.95)
Description: “Sip your Frappuccino® and other summery concoctions through festive straws that add the perfect final touch to any outdoor festivity. Cheers!”
Verdict: Hit!
I love getting party supplies.  When I finally finish painting my bar, I can use them for some cute drinks.

SPECIAL EXTRA

Starbucks® Frappuccino® Chilled Coffee Drink
(Suggested Retail: $7.99)
Description: Cool off and indulge in the sweet taste of a Frappuccino® chilled coffee drink, made with the quality Starbucks® coffee you already love. The delectable drink will be the perfect pairing with your day of fun in the sun. Also available in 13.7 oz. Flavor may vary.”
Verdict: Hit!
I’m not a Starbucks addict, but I really like the bottled Starbucks drinks as an occasionally treat. I actually tend to like them better than the real deal from the store. (I know, I know, I’m just crazy that way.)

OVERALL:
Verdict:
Hit!
Even though I ended up giving away a couple items in this box, I still think it was well put together.  It had a nice beachy summer feel, cohesive selections and items that should appeal to most subscribers.  I paid $42.70 for this box, and got a retail value of approximately $120.12. (The retail value is based on the current price of the hardcover novel.)  I pretty much got my money back with just the hair and nail products so I’ll call this one a win. I’m excited to see what starts popping up as we move toward the Fall.

I’ve got lots more box reviews coming up plus a huge KBeauty Haul.

If you want sneak previews of the box contents, be sure to follow me on Instagram!

Popsugar: May 2017 Must Have + July Spoiler & $15 Off Coupon!

So as usual I’m playing catch up with my boxes.  Today I’ve got a Popsugar July spoiler and a fabulous coupon deal along with my May review. Let’s jump right in!

JULY SPOILER & COUPON

Save $15 off the July 2017 Box!
Use Code: July15
I’m loving the towel spoiler because it will go perfect in my master bath.  I’m interested to see what we get for the “camp” inspiration.

Now onto the main attraction…

MAY MUST HAVE BOX
Now unfortunately, my box was missing the first item..

Lipstick Queen Mornin’ Sunshine

(Suggested Retail: $25)
Description: “This magical lipstick transforms from yellow to a custom coral shade that’s different for every user.  It’ll keep you lips moisturized with vitamin E and will make you smile every time you see the vibrant color.”
Verdict: Miss then a Hit!
I looked high and low in my box, but alas there was no lipstick included.  I love the Lipstick Queen brand and own a few of their products, so I was super excited to try a custom coral shade for Summer.  When I contacted Popsugar about my missing lipstick, they quickly mailed out a new one and you can see it in the next shot.  I was a little disappointed that I didn’t have the product right away, but mistakes happen.

Samantha Faye Inspiration Cuff
(Suggested Retail: $60)
Description: Wear this POPSUGAR-exclusive cuff as a daily reminder that you are good! This stunning adjustable cuff has words to live by carved into it: “Be good. Do good. Feel good.” It’s the motivational mantra you’ll be inspired by. The bracelet can be stacked with your favorite jewelry or worn alone for a minimalistic style.”
Verdict:
Guess I’m just a “bad”girl
I adore quotes and I love jewelry with interesting or compelling phrases but for me this one is uninspired and super corny: “Be good. Do good Feel good.”  I don’t need a reminder that I’m good.  I prefer a reminder to kick ass and take names, or at the very least a “What would Buffy Do”.  Maybe it’s just me but I find the saying on this bracelet so silly I don’t even know who to gift this too.

TOCCA Voyage Montauk 3 oz Candle
(Suggested Retail: $20.00)
Description: ”’ This beautiful candle by Tocca is a classic. It helps clear away the stress from the day. Set the mood as you pamper yourself with some well-deserved downtime. The fresh scent of this candle will evoke memories of ocean air while making it easy to unwind.”
Verdict: Love!
TOCCA scents can sometimes be a bit strong for me, but this one smelled so summery and lovely.

Swing Design Essex Silver Plate Frame
(Suggested Retail: $13.00)
Description: Encase your favorite friend or family moment in this chic silver-plated picture frame. It holds a 4″x 6″ photo that can be placed on your bedside table or bookcase or instead given as a Mother’s Day gift to someone special to brighten up their day.”
Verdict: Grandma called and she wants her sub box back
I think I fell asleep from how boring this is.  A silver picture frame. How is this a “must have”?  It’s more like an “everyone has”.  Popsugar, you have to try harder.

Nicely Noted Exclusive Must Have Card Collection
(Suggested Retail: $17.50)
Description: “Go beyond a text or email and write handwritten notes to let your friends and family know they’re appreciated. The adorable brightly illustrated cards include a thank you, birthday, and hello stationery pack exclusively designed for the Must Have box.”
Verdict: And naptime continues
I love getting stationary, but I like it to be interesting and this set just doesn’t seem all that compelling.  It’s exclusive to this box but pretty much a snooze fest.  This is supposed to be new and trendy, how about something with a little more edge or at least a little more unusual?

Southern Culture Artisan Foods, Inc Strawberry Cream Muffin Mix
(Suggested Retail: $7.99)
Description: “Re-create the sweet memories of baking with your grandma with this all-natural muffin mix. This mix contains real strawberries, all-natural flour, and pure cane sugar to ensure your muffins are light and fluffy every time.”
Verdict: Hit!
I always love getting baking mixes and strawberries are fitting for the season.  I’ll probably use this to make some work breakfasts.

OVERALL:
(Note: Because the lipstick was missing when I received my box, it’s also missing from the full box photo)
Verdict: Some Bad Choices
This box was really split down the middle for me.  I loved the lipstick, the candle and the baking mix.  I found the cards and frame to be uninspired, and the bracelet to be silly.  Thankfully, I only paid $20.46 because of the six month discount I nabbed last year.  For that price tag, I’m fine with not loving everything in the box.  I’m back to full price boxes in June, so hopefully Popsugar will step it up.  While this box had an estimated retail value of $143.49, I can’t see many subscribers getting psyched to receive a small boring picture frame and some notecards.

I’ve got lots more box reviews coming up including a FREE box, so be sure to check back!

Rachel Zoe Box of Style: Summer 2017

To kick off the beginning of summer, I’ve got my favorite sub box – Rachel Zoe Box of Style. This is a quarterly subscription that features high end brands and will set you back $100 for your seasonal fix.

Note from Rachel Zoe: “More than just a season, summer is a state of mind. For this Box of Style edition, my team and I wanted to bring that wanderlust the warm months evoke in all of us to life..”

The Sheer Perfection

Helena Quinn Kimono: (Estimated Retail: $120.00)
Description: “Versatility is the key to a polished closet.  From the beach to the stree, this muted floral stunner pulls together any ensemble—instant chic.”
Rachel’s Styling Ideas: “Stow in your beach or work bag for an effortless throw-on-and-go daytime option.  Layer over a crisp blouse and trousers for an elevated evening look.”
Verdict: There’s nothing that gets me looking forward to summer more than getting clothes I can’t fit into.
Why Rachel?  Why have you forsaken me?  We’ve gotten clothing items in the past but they were over-sized enough that they could fit a very large variety of women.  This is not very big and it has a belt so it just looks odd if it doesn’t fit you properly. It’s so beautiful and I’m epically sad that I can’t fit into it.  I’m so disappointed because there are so many fashion things that larger size women miss out on.  This box was something that even plus size women could enjoy. Now, not so much.  Rachel Zoe also has added in a customization option and this is an “exclusive collaboration” so there’s no excuse why they couldn’t include clothing with sizing options. Rachel’s going to have to score a lot of points in this box to win me over.

The Ace of Shades

Rael Durante Sunglasses Tortoise Shell (
Estimated Retail: $150.00)
Description: “There’s no such thing as too many sunnies, and this modern twist on a timeless style completes any look, causal or glam.”
Rachel’s Reasons to Love: “Classic wear-with-anything hues makes for easy accessorizing.  The updated cat-eye complements a variety of face shapes.”
Verdict: Love!
Cat eye glasses are my favorite shape and we were able to choose between black or tortoise shell.  I find tortoise shell complements my hair and pale skin better so I opted for that shade.  They are fun, classic and complimentary to a lot of face shapes.  A great choice.

The Wish You Were Here

The Brave Collection – Compass Necklace
(Estimated Retail: $115.00)
Description: “Summer is synonymous with travel, and this handmade necklace is a chic symbol of those sweet escapes we look forward to all year long.”
Style with Purpose: “This piece is handmade by fair-trade artisans in Cambodia, and 10% of profits are donated toward the fight against human trafficking.”
Verdict: Love!
Delicate gold jewelry is perfect for summer. I adore unique pieces and this one also donates profits to a worthy cause so that makes it even lovelier.  I have a silver talisman necklace that reads “courage without fear” that I wear regularly and this piece has a very similar feel, so excited to add it to my collection.

The Out of Office

Sole Society Straw Panama Hat: (Estimated Retail: $27.00)
Description: “A wide-brimmed hat is one of the most glamourous ways to protect your face from the sun, and this playful iteration adds a bit of splash to any outfit.”
Rachel’s Styling Hacks: “Tie on a scarf underneath for a snug-wind-proof fit.  Pack upside down and stuff crown with clothing to save space and maintain shape when traveling.
Verdict: Cheap Looking
Maybe this is just me but I think the pompoms on this hat really make it look cheap.  I love hats and collect them, but this one just seems like something you could find at a low end accessory store.  I like the idea of including a sunhat, I just don’t care for the one they chose.

The Jet Set

Beautycounter “Color Pinch” Cream Blusher in Hibiscus:
(Estimated Retail: $37.00)

Protect Stick Sunscreen:
(Estimated Retail: $18.00)
Description: “A bright cream blush and a fresh, breathable sunscreen are summer’s dynamic beauty duo and the ultimate way to bring out your natural glow.”
Rachel’s Reasons to Love: “Clean, good-for-you ingredients—totally paraben and silicone-free.  Double-duty color: Dab Cream Blusher on cheeks and lips for a subtle pop.  No streaks—safer, mineral sunscreen goes on clear.”
Verdict:
Hit!
I love cream blushes and this one looks perfect for summer.  (How could something called Hibiscus not be?) I didn’t swatch it yet since I’m still working through some other makeup first.  I’m always on the lookout for new sunscreen products because the sun is my mortal enemy.  Currently, I don’t have a solid stick product so I’m happy to try this one out.

OVERALL:

Verdict:
This is why doves cry.
Let’s start with the good stuff.  The box fit the summer theme perfectly and the estimated retail value was a whopping $467.  I thought the blush, sunscreen, glasses and necklace were all on point, and I will enjoy using those items.  Unfortunately, Rachel Zoe opted to include a piece of clothing with a value of $150 that could be a potential fit issue for a lot of customers, and was for me.  That’s a huge amount to deduct from the box.  So for a plus size lady your box value automatically falls down to a $317 before you even start looking at the products. As for the hat, it’s not the quality I expect from a $100 box or from Rachel Zoe.  It’s more suited to a discount store in the mall.  It didn’t scream out luxury.

I’ve always felt Box of Style was very thoughtfully curated to work for women of all shapes, sizes and ages, but this box clearly wasn’t put together with that idea in mind.  Even though I do like the majority of the items, the kimono was so disappointing that it ruined the whole experience for me.  As a pricier sub I expect better.

How do you feel about sized clothing in sub boxes?
Are they just part of the sub box gamble or do you think they are unfair to subscribers?

Popsugar: April 2017 Must Have + June & Summer LE Spoilers!

So as usual I’m playing catch up with my boxes.  Today I’ve got a ton of Popsugar spoilers along with my April box review. Let’s jump right in.

SUMMER LE SPOILERS

Summer Limited Edition Box!
Description: “Wishing everyday was a beach day? This box will set you up for an endless Summer of looking chic with must haves for the beach, heat-proof goodies, and more that will continue to make you daydream about your favorite outings at the shore.”
Quantities are limited, so don’t delay! Boxes will be shipped by May 26 via FedEx SmartPost.
Cost: $100.00
The spoilers so far look like a fabulous summer box.  Right now, it looks like there are still some available for sale so if you like what you see, you may want to nab one.

JUNE MUST HAVE SPOILERS

I’m super psyched because that Dr. Blankenship’s sea salt spray is my favorite sea salt spray and one of my favorite hair products period.  The pouch looks adorable and I’m always up for a new book.  I’m excited to see what the last few items are.

APRIL MUST HAVE BOX

MakersKit Crystal Sand Art Terrarium Kit

(Suggested Retail: $32)
Description: “This all-in-one terrarium kit comes with a glass vase, preserved mosses, sand, and an amethyst crystal. Not only are crystals one of the biggest trends, but this is the season’s easiest DIY-project-turned-ultrachic-decoration as well.”
Verdict: LOVE!
I love home items and I had planned on making some terrariums for my new house, so this was perfect.  I also love that this wasn’t an item you typically expect to see in a sub box.  One of my favorite items I’ve ever gotten in any box.

The Cottage Greenhouse Carrot & Neroli Rich & Repair Body Wash

(Suggested Retail: $22)
Description: Rejuvenate with this vitamin-rich body wash that nourishes and restores your skin. Full of naturally hydrating ingredients like coconut oil, cocoa butter, and honey, it’s guaranteed to make you glow from head to toe.”
Verdict:
Love!
One of my favorite things to get in sub boxes are items that are luxury or nicer versions of everyday things like bodywash, shampoo and hand soap.  This body wash looks super luxe and I can’t wait to try it out.

MORNING CULTURE Dipped Bamboo Cutting Board

(Suggested Retail: $22.00)
Description: ”’Function meets form with this gorgeous and eco-friendly kitchen addition. Dipped in food-grade paint, this pretty bamboo cutting board doubles as a space-saving serving tray.”
Verdict: Hit!
I’m always up for new home items and this will be a perfect little appetizer tray.  I have a clear glass bowl that should fit in the round cut-out, so I can do a perfect little tray of pita and humus or veggies and dip.

Tonic Australia® Lavender Sachets

(Suggested Retail: $15.00)
Description: Wake up to a sweet scent of Spring, or in this case, the refreshing aroma of idyllic lavender fields. Place these pretty floral satchels filled with dried lavender under your pillow or in your closet for a daily dose of exceptional calm.”
Verdict: Love!
More house stuff!  As someone who just bought a house, this is perfect.  It will inspire me to organize my dresser drawers.

CocolabTM CocoflossTM

(Suggested Retail: $8.00)
Description: “Make flossing fun with this coconut-oil-infused dental floss that will keep your mouth clean and fresh. The soft microfiber filaments are designed to scrub your teeth and a hint of tropical fruit will turn your pearly whites into a lifelong treasure.”
Verdict: Hit!
I know it’s just dental floss, but as someone who has lots of fun gum issues (thanks genetics) I need to floss somewhat compulsively so I’m happy to try some fancier products.

Nourish Snacks Holy Habanero

(Suggested Retail: $1.99)
Description: “Gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan, these fire-roasted habanero-seasoned corn kernels are unbelievably delicious and savory. Can there be too much of a good thing? With these little kernels of deliciousness, we think not.”
Verdict: Not for me
I’m not so into peppery snacks so this one was amiss for me.

SPECIAL EXTRA

ProNamel® Strong & Bright Enamel, Extra Fresh Toothpaste
Description: “The secret to whiter, brighter teeth starts with strong enamel. This new toothpaste is fortified with minerals to help strengthen enamel and polish teeth. Plus, it freshens breath and fights cavities for a healthy mouth.”
Verdict: Hit!
Who doesn’t need extra toothpaste?  This might not be super fancy, but it will save me a couple bucks at the pharmarcy.

OVERALL:

Verdict:
Favorite box of the year
With the exception of the $1.99 snack, I loved everything in this box.  It was definitely home décor heavy and had a practical vibe, but it was perfect for me.  I adore practical luxe items and the unexpected terrarium kit was a wonderful addition.  I can’t wait to find a place for all these goodies in my new house.

I still had boxes left on the awesome deal I nabbed last year, so I only paid $20.46 while the estimated retail value (excluding the toothpaste) was $100.99.  For what I paid, I would have been satisfied with just the terrarium kit.   I think the quality and value of this box was well beyond the full $39.95 price tag.

I’ve got lots more box reviews coming up including a few new ones.

If you want sneak previews of the box contents, be sure to follow me on Instagram!

How do you feel about home items in your sub boxes.

Popsugar: March 2017 Must Have & the Summer LE Box!

So as we head toward Mother’s Day this weekend, I thought I’d feature one of my favorite subscriptions: Popsugar Must Have Box.  If you’ve been procrastinating on picking up a gift, a subscription box is your best friend.  You can check out my handy dandy new page of sub boxes listed by category and my easy reference page of coupon codes and special links for help with that last minute shopping.

First some news!
Popsugar just launched their Summer Limited Edition Box!
Summer Box
Summer Limited Edition Box!
Description: “Wishing everyday was a beach day? This box will set you up for an endless Summer of looking chic with must haves for the beach, heat-proof goodies, and more that will continue to make you daydream about your favorite outings at the shore.”
Quantities are limited, so don’t delay! Boxes will be shipped by May 26 via FedEx SmartPost.
Cost: $100.00
My budget is currently being spent trying to drag my house out of 1976, so I’ll be skipping.  Personally, I find it best to wait for at least a spoiler or two before committing to the Popsugar Limited Edition boxes.  If you know you like at least one or two of the items, it’s a lot easier to gamble a hundred books.

Now onto my box:
MARCH MUST HAVE BOX

Open 1Open 2

Album
Kate Spade New York New York Photo Album
(Suggested Retail: $20)
Description: “Start bringing past memories to life by printing and storing them in this Kate Spade photo album. The cute polka-dot design will liven up any coffee table, and you’ll love reminiscing over the content you create inside forever.”
Verdict: Gift
I adore Kate Spade (and no one start me on a rant about Coach buying them out) but I was disappointed with this.  I don’t think most people use these kind of albums much anymore.  They either go the digital route or have albums made.  It’s  a cute design though and I’m going to use this as part of a gift.

BagStephanie Johnson Camera Crossbody Bag
(Suggested Retail: $45)
Description: Protect all your favorite necessities in this adorable Stephanie Johnson crossbody bag. Whether you’re at the beach or the pool, the vinyl texture will help to keep everything inside dry, and the cool see-through finish is right on trend for 2017.”
Verdict:
Hit!
At first I thought this would be too young and I’d pass it along to a kid, but it’s actually made very well and fits my camera perfectly.  It’s definitely bright, but it works great as a camera bag and I think it would be fun for the beach and water parks.

HighlighterThrive Causemetics Brilliant Eye Brightener™ in Stella
(Suggested Retail: $24.00)
Description: ”’ Thrive Causemetics’ cruelty-free, vegan highlighter lets you put your best face forward by giving you a long-lasting, luminous finish. From a company that is all about female empowerment, this handy eye brightener gives every woman a boost of confidence while also being perfect for those on the go.”
Verdict: Like
I couldn’t find this product for sale on its own on the Thrive site so I linked to the set where it’s available.  I think an eye brightener sounds like a great product as we move into warmer weather.  Dewy, luminous makeup looks are perfect for Spring and Summer.

Lunch BoxSunnylife, LLC® Eco Lunch Box Watermelon
(Suggested Retail: $18.00)
Description: ”Just looking at this Sunnylife watermelon lunch box makes your mouth water. Carry your favorite snacks or lunch in this dishwasher-safe model, which is perfect for enjoying outside in the sun.”
Verdict: Love!
I try to bring my lunch to work every day so I am always on the hunt for durable and adorable food storage and lunch boxes.  This is so cute and fun, it will definitely be going into my weekly rotation.

MarshmallowSmashMallow TM Cinnamon Churro
(Suggested Retail: $4.00)
Description: “Two of our favorite sweets — churros and marshmallows — come together to make the ultimate SmashMallow. This light but decadent treat will catapult you into Spring with its carnival-like feel and guilt-free appeal.”
Verdict: Sad Panda
I love marshmallows and cinnamon is my favorite spice so I was super excited to see these.  The taste was not good and the texture was grainy.  I so wanted them to be delicious and they just weren’t.

SPECIAL EXTRA
Velvet Eyewear® $25 Gift Card
Description: “Inspired by history, passion, a love of color, and a bit of rock, Velvet Eyewear sunglasses are just what you need this season. With this $25 gift card, you’re on your way to owning a brand-new, sleek pair of sexy specs.”
Verdict: Not really an extra!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Giftcards that require you to spend more than the face value are not “special extras”.  They are just coupons.  Sunglasses on this site are beautiful and cost upwards of $195.  I’d have no problem if this was just included as a nice coupon offer, but calling it a “special extra” is a bunch of crap.  Sorry for the lack of a photo, since it wasn’t an actual item, I forgot!

OVERALL:
Popsugar March 2017Verdict:
Like!
Now, I heard a lot of people complaining about this box and I can definitely see where they are coming for.  First the box value is a little low for Popsugar coming out at an estimated $111.00.  While that’s still more than the $39.95 cost, it’s not as much as a typical box.  On top of that this doesn’t feel like a March box at all. It seems more like it has a bit of a travel theme and seems like it should be something you receive in July.

For me, I still had boxes left on a fab deal I nabbed last year so I only paid $20.46.  I adored the lunch box and grew to love the overly cheerful crossbody bag.   I’ll use the brightener and gift the album so excluding the marshmallows and gift card everything will get used.

I’ve got lots more box reviews coming up including new sub boxes, old favorites and even a free one.

Popsugar: February 2017 Must Have Box + April Spoiler!

So today I’m sorting through my stack of overdue box reviews and I’ve got one of my faves.  It’s time for my Popsugar Must Have Box.  We’ve got the February review plus a spoiler for this month’s box.

April 2017 Box Spoiler

I freakin love this.  I’ve been planning on doing some terrariums for the new house so this is perfect.  I think I’ll put it in my new studio.  I’ve heard some posts that people are receiving them broken.  My box just arrived so I’m crossing my fingers that mine is intact.

FEBRUARY MUST HAVE BOX

Tribe Alive
Foldover clutch – Atitlán Brocade
(Suggested Retail: $98)
Description: “This soft, reversible clutch from Tribe Alive gives you two looks in one.  Each bag is hadnwove which provides subtle variations to make each bag one of a kind.  The best part about Tribe Alive is that it partners with artisans around the world to employ impoverished women at fair-trade wages and give them access to safe jobs.”
Verdict: Love!
This is such a pretty clutch and it’d be just the thing I’d take on a vacation.  It coordinates perfectly with the Tribe Alive bag from my Rachel Zoe Spring box.  I now have an awesome matching set.

Battington Lashes
–  Monroe 3D silk Lashes
(Suggested Retail: $25.00)
Description: ”Battington’s silk lashes are flirty, playful, and guaranteed to wow anyone to make eye contact with when you wear them.  You can reuse them up to 25 times and they’re so lightweight you’ll feel like they’re floating on your lash line.  Take natural up a notch.”
Verdict:
Like!
Okay, I’m making my solemn vow to you all that once I am actually living in my new house with a vanity and space for makeup, I am going to attempt to use fake lashes.  I’ve gotten a few sets from boxes over the years, but always been too intimidated to try them out.  But I’ve promised you guys, and as a woman of my word, I’m going to do it.  Say a little prayer that I don’t accidentally glue them to my contact lens.

Kris Nations Jewelry – Love Script Necklace
(Suggested Retail: $48.00)
Description: ”’Who doesn’t need a little more love in their lives?  The gold-plated necklace from Kris Nation reminds us that we are all special.  There’s nothing sweeter than a dainty necklace spreading some love.”
Verdict: On the fence
Many moons ago, in a LE Neiman Marcus Popsugar box, I received a very similar necklace so I’m not sure that I’m going to keep this. It’s definitely sweet and nice for a Valentine’s day theme, but I may end up giving this one away as a gift.

Chuao Chocolatier – Cinnamon Cereal Smooch Chocolate Bar
(Suggested Retail: $6.00)
Description: Cereal for dessert is already a great idea, but thanks to California-based chocolatier Chuao, it’s now the real deal!  The Cinnamon Cereal Smooch Chocolate Bar gives you permission to sweeten up your favorite breakfast treat.”
Verdict: Hit!
Chocolate is sort of a no-brainer for February boxes and this was delicious.

Juara Skincare Candlenut Body Creme
(Suggested Retail: $35.00)
Description: “Get rid of your dry Winter skin while dreaming of a tropical vacation with this luxurious body crème from Juara.  The nourishing candlenut oil is mixed with vitamin E to retain elasticity, soothe your skin and give you back your gorgeous glow.”
Verdict: Gift
A body crème is nice inclusion, but I’ve tried this brand through Birchbox and it just didn’t wow me.  I’ll gift it to a friend who will enjoy it more.

SPECIAL EXTRA

Revlon Super Lustrous “Love is On” Lipstick
(Suggested Retail: $7.99)
Description: “Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipstick is a perfect shade of red that looks good on everyone. Feel confident and choose love this month with this beautiful color on your lips.”
Verdict: Love!
A red lipstick is a perfect fit for a Valentine day theme.  I didn’t swatch this because I’m saving it for my new makeup kit, but the color looks lovely.

OVERALL:

Verdict:

The foldover clutch really made this box for me – everything else was just a nice bonus.  Because of the great holiday promotion I snagged in November, I paid only $20.46 and the estimated retail on this box came out to $222.99.  Even though not everything was my personal taste, I thought the items fit the season and offered a lovely variety that most subscribers will enjoy.

I’ve got lots more box reviews coming up including some new sub boxes and old favorites.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style: Spring 2017 + $20 Off!!

To offset the inexorable sadness that is Monday, I’ve got my favorite sub box to review – Rachel Zoe Box of Style This is a quarterly subscription that features high end brands.  Right now through May 1, 2017, there is a great promotion going on for $20 off your subscription.  Just use code SPRING20!

Note from Rachel Zoe: “For this editions’ box my team and I really focused on highlighting incredible female-founded brands.  I couldn’t think of a better season to bring to life our mission o empowering women by living a life in style.”

I am really psyched about this box’s theme as I love to support female founded brands and companies.  In this current political climate, we all need to look out and help each other as much as possible.

In addition to our fancy black box, we got an awesome extra.
SPECIAL FEATURED ITEM:

Stella Artois Buy a Lady a Drink Limited Edition Chalice
: (
Estimated Retail: $13.00)
Description: “663 million people around the world lack access to safe water.  This crisis disproportionately affects women, who spend millions of hours a day collecting water for their families.  Stella Artois and water.org have partnered together to give them that time back.  Every limited edition Chalices old helps provide 5 years of clean water for 1 person in the developing world.  Leave your mark at BuyALadyADrink.com. ”
Verdict: Beautiful on the Inside & Outside
These chalices have beautiful artwork designed by artists from Brazil, Cambodia and Uganda.  (I believe mine is from Brazil).  They are not only lovely to look at, but they help bring clean water to people that desperately need it. A win for everyone.

HERO ITEM:

The Weekend Warrior: Tribe Alive Custom Carryall: (
Estimated Retail: $238.00)
Description: “Tribe Alive was founded by Carly Burson to utilize her passion for fashion as a platform to help alleviate poverty among women around the world. Our partnership employed over 150 Indian Artisans in three cities.  As a working mom on-the-go I live for a chic-=yet-functional carryall.  Handmade by female artisans, this is truly a bag with a purpose, making it even more major to carry.”
Rachel’s “How To Wear”: “Pair with casual separates to look pulled together when running errands.  Add a pop of print to your office look or elevate your workout ensemble.”
Verdict: Hit!
This is an exclusive collaboration that happens to match exactly to a clutch sent out by Popsugar, so now I have an adorable set.  I love handmade items and the fact that  this helped give women a way out of poverty and a job they could be proud of, makes this bag even better.  The only downside is that from the spoiler pics, I thought it would be a bigger tote, but to me it’s more purse size than tote bag (if that makes sense).

The Totally Adornable: Adornmonde Ivo Earrings – Silver
(Estimated Retail: $62.00)
Description: “Adornmonde was founded by Niki Allworth with the simple purpose to design beautiful, limited edition jewelry.  Bold earrings are an effortless way to upgrade any ensemble.  This modern take on a classic hoops I sculptural and unexpected.”
Rachel’s Styling Ideas: “Wear the bars alone for day then add the hoop to elevate your look for evening. Embrace the edgy asymmetrical trend by wearing the bar on one ear and the hoop on the other.”
Verdict: Hit!
I love that we were able to select whether we wanted gold or silver.  I already own some gold hoops, so I opted for the silver, but I would have been happy with either.  The transformer-esque quality to this earring, lets you have different looks – from edgy to classic. I wouldn’t have normally chose this style, but it’s part of why I love this sub.  It lets me try new styles I might otherwise shy away from.

The Tied & True: Symbology Scarf:
(Estimated Retail: $50.00)
Description: “Symbology was founded by Marissa Heyl after a trip to India inspired her to combine her lifelong passion for design with women’s rights.  A bold scarf is one of the most versatile accessories a woman can own. This handcrafter exclusive can be styled so many different ways and instantly adds a personal flavor to any outfit.”
Rachel’s Accessories Inspo: “Add French flair by wearing loosely around your neck.  Tie on a handbag strap for a playful splash of color or on your wrist to replace your favorite cuff.”
February 15, 2017)
Verdict: Like
This is another exclusive collaboration.  The scarf is very pretty and can give both a professional and global chic vibe.  The little card inside says that the “peacock feather scarf symbolizes integrity and beauty” and was printed in Sanganer India.

The Skin Savior: Tatcha Polished Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder:
(Estimated Retail: $65.00)
Description: “Tatcha was founded by Victoria Tsai and inspired by Geisha beauty rituals and their mantra that less is more.  As we move into spring, reviving tired winter skin is a must, and it all starts with a great exfoliator.  Gentle on skin this powder is my first step to a healthy glow.”
Rachel’s Beauty How-To: “Use it in the morning followed by your go-to sunscreen and at night with your favorite moisturizer.”
Verdict:
Like
I’m all about exfoliators and Tatcha is a brand I’ve heard good things about.  I’m excited to incorporate this into my skincare routine.  I’ve been hoardingfancy pants products to turn my new bathroom into a spa and this is going into the collection.

The Haute Hydrator: BRK Glass & Silicone Water Bottle:
(Estimated Retail: $35.00)
Description: “WBKR was founded by friends Tal Winter and Kate Cutler as an antidote to cheap plastic bottles, and the key to skin that glows from the inside.  With a renewed focus on wellness, staying hydrated is key to looking and feeling your best.  This sleek design is one you’ll actually want to tote around, making it even easier to get your daily dose of H20.”
Rachel’s Reasons to Love: “Be Green! Resolve to reduce wasteful plastic water bottles by using this refillable style.  Skincare starts from within—hydrate often for reduced wrinkles, shinier hair and nails and a more even, radiant skin tone.”
Verdict: Like!
I know, I know I usually hate water bottles because I have eleventymillion of them but this one is so lovely that I’m making an exception.  I’m also trying to force myself to drink more water (and less Coke Zero) so this will help the cause.

The Sweet Treat: Butter London Nail Polish “Piece of Cake(Estimated Retail: $18.00)
Description: “Butter London was founded by entrepreneur, Sasha Muir with the help of premier fashion manicurist Nonie Crème as the first healthy nail lacquer.  A sleek mani is the ultimate finishing touch to any look and ‘Piece of Cake’ is sheer perfection – a fresh twist on bold neutrals.”
Rachel’s Beauty Tips: “Layer over a white polish to make the pale pink really pop.  Keep layers thin and let them dry for a t least a minute in between to avoid smudging.”
Verdict:
Hit!
One of the things I love about this sub, is that Rachel manages to choose items that can appeal to women of all ages.  This shade would look lovely on a Co-ed or a grandmother, on someone with light skin or dark.  It works for so many different subscribers.

OVERALL:

Verdict:
Love!
This may be one of my favorite of Rachel’s boxes.  First, I loved the theme and that many items helped support women and causes in developing countries.  From a fashion standpoint, this included some fun exclusive collaborations and I will use and enjoy every single thing in the box.  Including the chalice, the value on this box was a whopping $481.  That’s a huge return on a $100 investment.  Everything included was wonderful quality and I can see the pieces lasting for quite some time.  A great start for 2017.

Popsugar: January 2017 Must Have Box + April & LE Resort Box Spoilers!

I know it’s been quiet over here, but that’s because I have so much awesome stuff going on!
I’ve been working on the new house (I can’t tell you how sore I am from painting cabinets) and I’ve got a fun post coming up for a ceiling fan hack that costs under $7.  On the sub box front, I’ve got some great new boxes to share including a new dessert box.  Lastly, for my upcoming book, The Ice Maiden’s Tale, I’ve been working with my Publisher on finalizing the cover art.  Hopefully I’ll have more to share on that front too.

So to summarize – less time writing = more time getting cool stuff to write about.

Today, I’ve got one of my old favorites: my Popsugar Must Have Box.  We’ve got the January review plus a sneak peek at their brand new Limited Edition Resort Box and an April 2017 Spoiler!

Limited Edition Resort Box Spoilers!

Limited Edition Resort Box
“It’s the season to relax and reinvigorate. Start by planning a dreamy getaway. Then kick off your luxurious lounging in style with our curated box of travel essentials. Whether it’s a beachside resort or your own backyard, feel and look fab wherever you go.”
Quantities are limited, so don’t delay! Orders placed by March 15 will ship by March 20. Orders placed after March 15 will be shipped within 7-10 business days. All orders will ship via FedEx SmartPost
Cost: $100
These look like nice summery items, but I’m on a hella tight budget for anything that doesn’t attach to a ceiling or wall.  But if you like both items, it might be worth the $100 gamble.

APRIL 2017 SPOILER

I love, love, love getting home items in boxes and I can’t wait to use this in my new kitchen.
What do you think of it?

JANUARY MUST HAVE BOX

Goldfaden MD Fresh A Peel Multi Acid Resurfacing Peel

(Suggested Retail: $85)
Description: “Taking the term fresh-faced literally, this supercharged peel removes dead skin cells and with continued use, skin may become softer and brighter.  This natural skin care line is clean nd cooling while delivering effective results.  Rejuventate your skin this season from the inside out!”
Verdict: Okay
This is a nice (and spendy) brand but for me personally, I have a stockpile of skincare so it’s not that exciting.  I do think though, that is a great fit for a new year/January box and that most subscribers will probably love it.  That being said, I’m sure I’ll use it, I just need to get through my stack of other products first.

May Designs Desk Calendar & Notecard

(Suggested Retail: $25.00)
Description: ”Start each month off with a bit of beauty as you flip through this calendar filled with 12 hand-painted floral patterns.  You’ll not only enjoy the unique designs, but someone else will too!  Flip over and cut along the dotted line to turn each page into a note for someone special.”
Verdict:
Like
This isn’t as awesome as the planner they sent out last January, but it’s still nice.  I especially like that you can turn each month into a notecard, when you are finished.  I do think that Popsugar should consider moving calendar and planner items to December boxes since a lot of people purchase those types of items before the new year.

Daily Concepts Your Hair Wrap Towel

(Suggested Retail: $18.00)
Description: ”’Kiss that frizz goodbye!  With special microfibers, this towel helps reduce flyaways, cuts your blow-dry time, and wraps around your hair comfortably while staying put.  Tuck it into the reusable pouch forth perfect travel mate at the gym, at home, or on vacation.”
Verdict: Love!
Rachel Zoe made me fall in love with hair wraps and I’m happy to get another one to use.  I packed this up for the new house so I haven’t tried it out yet, but I’m sure it will be really helpful. I also love that it comes with a reusable pouch so it’s perfect for travel.

Manduka eQua Mat Towel in Playa

(Suggested Retail: $38.00)
Description: ”The perfect addition to any yoga class, this absorbent, quick-drying, and slip-resistant towel is ready to hold you in place as you breathe deep. Ultra-lightweight with exceptional durability, the soft, suede-like feel will cover your mat in style.
Verdict: Like
I’m usually not into exercise items because they tend to be: 1. Water bottles or 2. Too specific for a general sub box.  However, I think this item is a good choice, since most people who exercise use a mat and regardless of your practice, it’s nice to have a soft nonslip towel on top of it.

Sourcebooks, Inc.  Instant Happy Notes
(Suggested Retail: $8.99)
Description: “Versatile enough to pull bangs out of your face or to jazz up a topknot, these glittery hair pins can be worn individually or all together.  They’re festive enough for New  Year’s Eve parties and beyond!”
Verdict: On the Fence
These are a cute idea, but I’m not sure how to use them.  I may just take them along with me  on the commute and leave them in strange spots in NYC.  (So if you see a cheerful note somewhere in the Big Apple, it might be from me).

Dean & Deluca Peppermint Loose Leaf Tea

(Suggested Retail: $10.75)
Description: “It’s time to wind down and relax with this aromatic peppermint tea. The soothing menthol flavor and added digestive benefits will keep your days and nights calm and refreshing.”
Verdict: Not for me
I keep trying to make myself into a tea drinker and so far it’s not really working.  I may pass this along to a friend or just keep it for guests who like peppermint.

SPECIAL EXTRA

Glade N3 Free – Coconut and Beach Woods Candle
(Suggested Retail: $4.99)
Description: “Cold Winter days are wonderfully cozy when paired with a spectacular scented candle.  This soy candle, part of a new line of multilayered home fragrances, will transform your space into a sweet and woodsy oasis.”
Verdict: Gift
This candle is surprisingly chic for Glade brand and if you peel off the sticker, I don’t think folks would ever guess you could pick this up in a grocery store.  I love candles but the scent on this one was a bit strong for me, so I passed it along to a friend.  Still, I really love special extras that are actual items we can use, rather than gift cards which require additional purchases.

OVERALL:

Verdict:
Like!
Even though not everything was the right fit for me, I thought this was a well put together January box.  The items felt right for the new year and I think they would appeal to a wide range of subscribers.  Since I’m still working off my paid subscription during Popsugar’s fab promotion, this box cost me $20.46 and had an estimated retail value of $190.73 (including the Glade Candle).  That’s a great value even if I only use a few of the items.

I’ve got lots more box reviews coming up including some new sub boxes and old favorites.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style: Winter 2016, Spring Spoilers + $10 Off

Rachel Zoe Box of Style has been my favorite subscription, but I had a few hiccups with my Winter 2016 box. Before I get into all that jazz, I’ve got an awesome Spring spoiler, plus $10 off if you use code SUBTHERAPYSP10 .

SPRING SPOILER:
spring-spoiler

Rachel Zoe “teamed up with Tribe Alive, a fair-trade accessory label that supports independent artisans in developing countries, to create a striking and versatile handbag perfect for festival season. Valued at $200, the black and white carryall is made of foot-loomed fabric and cognac brown leather and produced on a small-batch scale to ensure the highest quality.”

Their “partnership with Tribe Alive yielded a beautiful handbag while providing five months of employment for more than 150 Indian artisan partners in three cities. From the weavers in Panipat to master tailors and leather workers in Delhi to the logistics team in Jaipur, this bag positively impacted every link of the supply chain. That’s truly a wow factor.”

This bag looks amazing and I love that it supports artisans around the globe.  It also is a perfect match for Popsugar’s February spoiler, a Tribe Alive clutch.  I can’t wait to use them together!
box
So before I get into the box goodies, I need to talk about some customer service drama.
I ended up with two winter boxes.  How?  I had a quarterly subscription and Box of Style had some great promotions for purchasing an annual prepaid one.  I jumped on the sale and signed up, but unfortunately, it gave me two subscriptions – a quarterly and an annual prepaid.  I immediately contacted customer service via their email interface. I wanted to make sure I didn’t get two of the same box and that my yearly subscription would start in Spring.   I got no response, despite the fast approaching shipping date for the Winter boxes.  I emailed repeatedly for weeks, and got two deliveries of this box.  Box of Style had no phone access so there was no number for me to call.  Finally, over a month later, and countless email inquiries, I got an auto-response that my subscription was canceled. No apology for the wait or the hassle.  It was incredibly disheartening.  Even through my many past struggles with Popsugar customer service, they at least responded in a reasonable amount of time.  This experience really put a huge damper on the fun of this box.

So in any case, imagine all these times times deux.

HERO ITEM:
necklace
The Serious Sparkle: Dylanlex Zoey Custom Necklace😦
Estimated Retail: $200.00)
Description: “No look is complete without a STATEMENT-MAKING accessory and I couldn’t be more obsessed with this custom necklace designed exclusively for us by It-girl-idolized Dylanlex. Whether you’re going glam or casual, this piece is perfection.”
Rachel’s Styling Ideas: “Fasten loosely to wear as a classic bib necklace or tighten to style as a choker.  Layer over luxe lace or satin ensembles for an effortlessly chic evening look.  Give it an off-duty spin with a chunky sweater and lived-in denim.”
Coupon Code: Use code ZOEY for 15% off select styles.
Verdict: Hit!
This necklace is lovely and can work in both glam and casual settings.  The clear crystals also make it extremely versatile.  I always love exclusive items and this is unique to the Rachel Zoe sub box.  Since I don’t need two of these, I’m going to gift or sell the extra.

cream
The First Winter Layer: Sunday Riley tidal Enzyme Brightening Water Cream (Estimated Retail: $65.00)
Description: “I always make it a point to treat my face to a little TLC after a long evening out or long travel day.  This luxe water cream BRIGHTENS, SOOTHES and HYDRATES dry winter skin—and it smells amazing too!”
Beauty Tips: “Layer as a mask for an instant- spa-fresh feeling without leaving the comfort of home.  Wear under your makeup to seal in hydration all day and night long. During the day lightly pat onto your skin over makeup for a dewy, fresh look.”
Verdict: Love!
So many magazines and bloggers rave about Sunday Riley, but it’s a bit spendy for my current budget.  I’m so excited to try this out.  I’m going to keep my second one as part of my beauty stash.

hat
The Knit Factor: Soia & Kyo Olivia Cable Knit Hat:
(Estimated Retail: $50.00)
Description: “I love when it gets coo enough to start wearing beanies.  My whole family ears beanies throughout the year.  This classic CABLE KNIT style comes in 3 COLD-WEATHER HUES and I keep all of them in my winter essentials stash.
Rachel’s Styling Ideas: “Stow in your everyday bag to keep sudden winter chills at bay.  Wear slouchy for day or cuffed for evening.  Throw on and go over air-dried hair to keep the top from frizzing when you don’t have time to fully style.”
Coupon Code: Use code ZOE to receive 20% off sitewide, excluding all SALE items. (Valid through February 15, 2017)
Verdict: Okay
I like and wear knitted hats, but this one is a bit boring for my taste.  Plus it has this metal logo that managed to fall off after just two weeks of wearing it.  I’d have loved to see a knit hat with a bit more fashion to it.  Like everything else, I got two of these.  I ended up gifting the white one and then keeping a black one for myself.

candle
The Mood Setter: D.L. & Co. The Zoe Report “Birch” Custom Candle
(Estimated Retail: $50.00)
Description: “Nothing sets the AMBIANCE like a great smelling candle, and this one is a dream.  Whether you’re hosting an intimate HOLIDAY GET-TOGETHER or getting some much deserved R&R at home, this woodsy scent is the perfect touch.”
Rachel’s Living in Style Tips: “Place as the focal point in a chic holiday centerpiece or table setting.  Enhance your at-home spa experience with some added stress relief.  The perfect last-minute host or hostess gift for any occasion.
Coupon Code: Use DLC020 for 05% off sitewide (Valid through February 15, 2016).
Verdict:
Very “Manly”
This candle smells like wood mixed with men’s cologne.  The black minimalist style of the candle is just not my personal taste.  It didn’t feel very holiday or fun.  A different scent or some packaging with a pretty metallic would have made it a win for me.  I gave one to my boyfriend and I’ve still got one on my shelf waiting to go to someone will really like it.

wallet open-wallet wallet-back
The Tiny-But-Mighty: Dagne Dover Exclusive Leather Card Case
(Estimated Retail: $50.00)
Description: “As with any working mom, it is always a challenge to stay on top of things.  I live for anything that helps to keep me ORGANIZED.  Major bonus points if it’s insanely chic, like this LEATHER card case.  The ideal size to hold all of your essentials, yet sleek enough to toss inside a clutch.”
Rachel’s Living in Style Tips: “The luxe pebbled leather and rich navy hue makes it perfect evening accessory and a great alternative to black.  Upgrade your usual business card holder.  Swap out for your everyday wallet when you just need the bare necessities, like cash, credit cards and ID.”
Verdict: Like!
Navy is always a great neutral and this will be perfect to carry my business cards during job interviews or conferences.  Still though, I’m not quite sure it feels Holiday or Winter to me.  I also don’t need two of these, so I’ll have to give away my extra.

lipstick
The One-Two Punch: Clinique Pop Lip Colour +  Primer in Berry Pop (Estimated Retail: $18.50)

Rachel’s Beauty Tips: “Wear with a cheek tint and mascara for an everyday fresh-faced look.  Swipe on to add a dash of holiday glam to your everyday look.  Pair with a sleek cat-eye for a dramatic evening effect.  Stash it in your go-to clutch of an instant update-a picture-perfect pout in one swipe.”

The idea of a primer and lip product in one sounds like a wonderful idea. Berry shades are lovely for winter.  I didn’t swatch this because I’m saving it for after my move, but it seems like a really pretty color.  Once again, I have an extra so that will go toward a friend.

You know my perfume aversion, but this is an extra item that doesn’t even have a suggested retail value so I won’t let it affect my opinion of the overall box.

Verdict:
Lost its luster
Sooner or later, the one you love the most is going to let you down.  My customer service issues really put a huge damper on this box, even before I opened it.  The retail value is a whopping $433.50, while the cost was only $100.  Luckily the items I really liked were the pricier ones, so the box was still worth it for me. However, as lovely and high end as these choices were, this didn’t feel like a special Holiday box.  The hat was ordinary, the card holder seemed better suited for another time of year and the scent and styling of the candle were not particularly appealing.  As a subscriber from the very beginning, this is probably my least favorite Rachel Zoe Box.  That being said, even with some missteps it’s still a pretty damn good box.  Thankfully, the discount I received on a yearly sub offset getting the same box twice.  I’m hoping Spring will bring more of the usual Rachel Zoe awesomeness and that in the meantime, they’ve improved their customer service.
