December Product Reviews: Memebox –I’m Dual Pore Brush,Snowflake Cleansing Balm & Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask

It’s time again for some fun with Korean Beauty Products. The folks from Memebox always send me fun things to review and this month I got a bunch of products I was super excited to try out.
Memebox December Products

Clay Mask
Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask by Elizavecca

(Memebox Retail: $12.00)
Memebox Description: “This bubble clay mask is both a deep-cleansing makeup remover and pore cleanser in one! With its special formulation of charcoal powder, it deeply penetrates the pores to thoroughly get rid of deep-seated dirt while supplying proper nutrients to keep the skin healthy and supple. It not only cleanses, refines and tightens pores but it also helps control excessive sebum which usually causes the pores to be clogged.”
How to use:
“Scoop a proper amount of the Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask and spread evenly on dry, uncleansed face. Wait for 5 minutes until bubbles start to appear then gently massage it all over the face to melt down dirt. Rinse off with lukewarm water.”

Verdict: Hit!
I gave this mask a try and it actually starts bubbling pretty quickly. After waiting the prerequisite five minutes, the product looked pretty horrifying, like you had grey fluffy cauliflower growing on your face, so I recommend locking the bathroom door unless you want to traumatize your Significant Other (or any small children in the vicinity). I rubbed in the product, then rinsed it clean as instructed. It washed away much easier than other clay masks I’ve used. My skin afterwards definitely felt much cleaner and quite a bit smoother. I was concerned the product would be drying but it absolutely wasn’t. I think this is a superb mask for only $12 and could be a lot of fun for at home spa night with or without your closest friends (just don’t let one get a picture of you pre-rinsing).

Brush with instructionsWhite SidePink Side
I’m Dual Pore Brush by XO Memebox

(Memebox Retail: $12.00)
Memebox Description: “Bring your cleansing routine to the next level with I’m Dual Pore Brush. The first step to perfect skin is a good, thorough cleanse. Our ultra-soft microfiber and silicone brushes detox, rejuvenate, and retexturize. The white microfiber brush is made with 550,000 microfiber bristles that deeply clean pores without irritating the skin. It draws impurities and blackheads out of the pores for incredibly soft and even skin texture. The pink silicone brush is made with gentle silicone bristles that help remove stubborn blackheads and whiteheads. When gently pressed against the skin, it helps reduce puffiness in addition to restoring circulation and resilience.”

DIRECTIONS:
To Use the “Ultra-Soft Microfiber Brush”: “Wet the microfiber brush head with warm water and add a small amount of facial cleanser.  Gently massage your face in a circular motion.”
To use the “Ultra-Gentle Silicone Brush Side”: “Press against the skin to restore circulation. Gently massage your T-zone in a circular motion with foam to remove blackheads.”
A helpful Membox Graphic!:
i'm-dual-pore-brush-content2- how to

Verdict: LOVE!
Sadly this is currently sold out, but I’m sure Memebox will bring it back. The white side is super soft and the pink side gives a nice exfoliation. I actually own a Clarisonic Mia and even with the sensitive brushheads, I can’t use the product every day. This is much gentler and I like that it has two different types of bristles. The handle has a nice weight to it and this product definitely feels more expensive than the $12 price tag. If you’re looking for a versatile, affordable facebrush, definitely give this one a try once it’s back in stock.

Snowflake Cleanser
Nooni Snowflake Cleanser

(Memebox Retail: $13.00)
Memebox Description: “Good cleansing helps maintain an even canvas for seamless application of skincare and makeup products. We designed the ultimate oil cleansing balm to give you a gentle cleanse every day. Cleansing Balm, Oil & Milk – all in one: Unique sherbet changes its texture as you cleanse so you can enjoy the benefits of a cleansing balm, cleansing oil, and cleansing milk all at once. Revitalize with Jeju Water: Water is a key component in most skincare products. This cleanser is made with mineral-rich Jeju spring water that promotes vitality and elasticity of skin while you cleanse. Nourish & Moisturize: Shea Butter, Citrus Peel Extract, and Lotus Flower Extract keep the skin feeling moisturized and supple.”
DIRECTIONS:
A not so detailed graphic from Memebox (but cute nonetheless):
nooni-snowflake-cleanser-howto-content
“Step 1: Cleansing balm – It starts off with a balm texture that melts into your skin like snowflake. Cleansing balm allows for a mess-free, easy application.
Step 2: Cleansing oil – The balm turns into an oil as you massage into your skin. Cleansing oil is the most powerful form of cleansing that dissolves makeup, sunblock and oil-based impurities such as sebum.
Step 3: Cleansing milk – Massage once more with wet hands to emulsify the oil. Cleansing milk gently lifts away the oil and water-based impurities such as sweat and dirt.
Rinse off with lukewarm water. Your skin will be left feeling soft and moisturized (and not oily!). Follow up with your regular moisturizer routine.

Verdict: Like
I was interested to see how this would compare with my regular oil cleanser and sadly it’s not a replacement for that. Oil cleanser can remove heavy makeup as well, while this requires you to remove your heavy/waterproof makeup first (which Memebox mentions on the site). That being said the cleanser itself is lovely. It has a balm like texture that works well with the included facebrush or with a Clarisonic. It melts away and gives you that squeaky clean feel without drying your skin. The size I received was a deluxe sample so for $13 you’d get a much larger size. I think it’s a great price for the product and if you’re someone who wants the benefits of an oil cleanser, but doesn’t like the feel of oil on your skin, consider giving this cleanser a try.

October Product Reviews: Memebox – TONYMOLY Panda’s Dream Brightening Eye Base & Memebox Puffs

It’s time again for some fun with Korean Beauty Products. The folks from Memebox always send me fun things to review and this month I’ve actually got a favorite product of mine.

Bear 2 Bear - Close
Panda’s Dream Brightening Eye Base by Tonymoly

(Memebox Retail: $12.00)
Memebox Description: “Instantly see improvement in the appearance of dark circles with ingredients that soothe and specifically target the under eye region, to visibly improve puffiness, eye bags , and dark circles. Properties also include revitalizing eye wrinkle treatment to reduce the appearance of fine lines. Create energized and brightened under eyes with this easy-to-use, on-the-go skin treatment. You can also use this product as a highlighter to add definition and create a dynamic, multi-dimensional look.”

DIRECTIONS: “Apply directly to the under yes where dark circles or puffiness are most prominent. Use as a highlighter and apply to nose bride, forehead, chin, cheek bones for definition. Blend into skin for a natural and flawless finish. Re-apply throughout the day as needed.”

Verdict: LOVE!

I actually own this product and talked about it during my NYC Feature where I visited the TonyMoly store. I use this regularly under my eyes. It’s definitely brightening, but if you plan to cover your dark circles you should use it in conjunction with a concealer. If you’ve tried Benefit’s Fakeup, it’s very similar to the hydrating core around the color. The product goes on smoothly and is nicely hydrating. I use it regularly beneath my stronger concealers so that the delicate skin of the under eye area doesn’t get irritated or dry. I’d never thought to try this out as a highlighter, but thanks to Memebox’s handy dandy little card I’ll be making this even more of a multi-tasker. And it goes without saying that anything TonyMoly is super adorable.   I mean who doesn’t want an eye brightening panda in their makeup case?  This is a great buy for $12 and I can’t recommend it enough.

Makeup SpongeReverse Side
Meme Puff Set
5 pcs by XO Memebox

(Memebox Retail: $5.00)
Memebox Description: “Your search for the perfect air cushion pact ends here. Simply take your favorite facial makeup and pat, pat, pat with Meme Puffs! These Rubycell antibacterial puffs are the same puffs encased in air cushion pacts that deliver the flawless, airbrushed finish. With its skin-fitting technology, it lets your makeup directly touch your skin and fill even the finest lines. Plus, there’s no need to worry about having to wash it over and over again as it is antibacterial and won’t accumulate dirt.
If you already own an air cushion pact, it’s a great idea to occasionally swap out the applicator.”

DIRECTIONS: “Pair with face makeup of your choice – foundation, BB cream, CC cream.  Or pair with your old air cushion pact. Gently press the cushion puff against the cushion foundation until an appropriate amount of product is released. Pat gently onto the face to create an airbrushed, moist finish.”

Verdict: Like
I really like that these sponges are antibacterial. It’s also great to have a nice alternative to using that same old sponge in your compact. The sponge seemed quite sturdy and the application was good. The five pack at $5 seems a pretty reasonable price since a sponge should last quite some time. If you’ve got a cushion compact with a sponge that has seen better days consider grabbing a pack of these.

September Product Review: Memebox – Ciracle Blackhead Off Sheet

It’s time again for some fun with Korean Beauty Products. The folks from Memeboxalways send me exciting products to review and this time I have Ciracle’s Pore Control Blackhead Off Sheet.
Good-bye Blackhead Ciracle
Ciracle Pore Control Blackhead Off Sheet

(Memebox Retail: $15.00)
Memebox’s Description: “Keep your skin clear and get rid of all those stubborn blackheads! This unique blackhead eliminator is in a sheet form which effectively allows the essence to fully sit into the pores to be able to soften the dirt out and eliminate it completely. It also controls excessive sebum production to prevent further appearance of whiteheads and blackheads.”

There is nothing that K-beauty hates more than blackheads and “excessive sebum”, hence the constant stream of products to tackle those very issues.

This kit comes with a jar of circular sheets soaked in some type of blackhead removing solution, tweezers and q-tips.
Open Jar
The directions say to apply the pads to a clean face and press until they adhere. You leave them for 20 to 30 minutes, then rub the q-tips around the area to remove blackheads. After, you rinse off with lukewarm water.

I found the circles hard to apply to certain areas of my face. You are supposed to be able to use these on your cheeks and chin as well, but I couldn’t get mine to stay on my chin. The feel of the solution reminds me a lot of a typical Korean facemask. It’s the same kind of feel against your skin and the same consistency in the liquid.

I have sensitive skin and I was fine for most of the time the pads were on. Toward the end of the time limit, my skin near my eyes was feeling a little dry. I didn’t have a reaction, but I did follow up with oil cleanser and moisturizer.

Product
Verdict:
Like

After I was done, my pores did seem notably cleaner. I’m not convinced that this removes blackheads, but it does do a good job of cleaning out your pores. I like that it’s not as rough on your skin as those adhesive style strips and the small circles allow you to place the mask exactly where you want it. They are a little difficult to work with for some areas of the face, but you could work around them by applying and then laying on the couch.

I couldn’t find this product for individual purchase on the Memebox site, but it is part of the Ciracle Box, which looks pretty awesome. It’s got a deep cleansing oil, a snail mask, and tons of other goodies. If I didn’t have a giant skincare stockpile, I’d be nabbing it for myself.

Are blackheads a problem for you? If so, what is your beauty solution for dealing with them?

August Product Reviews: Memebox Yeondukong Fix Lip & Cosrx Blackhead Silk Fingerballs

The great folks at Memebox always sent me fun and funky products to review. For August, I received the uber mysterious Cosrx Blackhead Silk Fingerballs and the cheerful Yeondukong Fix Lip.

We’ll start with the lip product.
LipstickLipstick Swatch
Yeondukong x Memebox: Fix Lip #01 Red Orange
(Retail: $12.00)
Keeping up with Memebox’s recent theme of having special celebrity curations, “Yeondukong is a 25-year-old, ultimate “gwiyomi” beauty guru from Korea. She shares beauty tips that are quick and easy, perfect for students and workers who want to look great on the go.”

“What it is: This super pigmented 3-in-1 is pigmented like a lipstick, moisturizing like a tint balm, and evens out dry, patchy lips like a primer. It gives a great color payoff that makes the lips naturally plump and pretty. Formulated with mango, grapeseed, apple oil, and honey extracts to nourish and moisturize the lips. Its long-lasting formula allows the color to stay intact for up to 12 hours.”

This is Memebox’s photo that shows the color after 12 hours of wear:
Lipstick Before & After
Verdict: Hit!
As you can tell by my swatch this is hardcore orange on me–like prison jumpsuit, see me coming from across the street, orange. But the formula on this product was fabulous. The lipstick went on smoothly and had a gorgeous color saturation. It was hydrating, although after wearing it for a few hours my lips did feel a bit dry, so it’s not one stop shopping for  lip hydration. The lipstick was long-lasting but mine didn’t get that 12 hours of wear as shown in the Memebox photo. After a bunch of hours and a pizza dinner, it had mostly faded but there was still a bit of an orange tint. Even though this color is out of my comfort zone, it was so bright and saturated that after a while I started to like it. If Memebox introduces a cooler red shade, I’m going to be all over it. This is a great lipstick and I think it’s worth the $12.00 pricetag. If you like orange reds, definitely consider giving this a shot.

Silk
Blackhead Silk Finger Ball 12 pcs

(Retail: $4.58)
I’m going to be honest here, when I first got these I couldn’t figure out if they were packing materials or an actual beauty product. Thankfully, Memebox sent out an email to  bloggers with more info and directions.

“What it is: A finger ball made of 100% natural silk. Used to massage and gently exfoliate the skin to reveal healthy, youthful skin.”
Directions:
Directions
Verdict: Does anyone ever think that Korean beauty manufacturers are just punking us sometimes?

So these are like blackhead finger scrubbing balls? Why not just make silk pads similar to a konjac sponge? I don’t quite get it. I dutifully followed the instructions, but I didn’t see much change in my blackhead situation. It did remove a little leftover makeup, so it does function as a basic face sponge/exfoliator but I’m not seeing this as having any real impact on removing blackheads. If you want to scrub your face using just your fingertips, then this is just the product for you, but if you’re like me and are fine usually a regular face sponge, you can pass on this one.

Memebox ProductsAs usual, I had a lot of fun trying out these Korean beauty trends, even if they all weren’t wins for me.  Korean products are a great way to mix up your beauty routine and have some fun with your makeup and skincare.

What do you think of the Korean beauty trend in the US? Are the products exciting or just a bit too weird for you?

July Product Review: Memebox HDReady Marsala Cream Matte Lipsticks & Coupon Code!

For July, Memebox sent me some fun makeup to review. The MAKEUPBYEVON + Memebox line introduced a trio of Cream Matte Lipsticks in different shades of Marsala. (Use ‘MEME10′ to receive 10% off your order!)
Lipsticks
My first thought: Who is Evon?
A little recon on the Memebox site gave me the answer:

“NY-based self-taught MUA Evon inspires everyone to discover beauty through makeup and self-transformation.”

I knew I wanted to go into makeup when learned that my makeup can make other people feel beautiful. As a makeup artist, it’s always been a dream to design my own beauty products. I decided to work with Memebox because I knew that K-beauty is all about the latest technology and high quality formula. My HD Ready Collection with Memebox is for people who want that sophisticated, professional look with minimal effort…”

Memebox’s Description of the Lipsticks:
“Evon chose the perfect matte lipstick formula in three different shades from the Marsala family, Pantone color of the year. This cream-to-powder formula glides on beautifully and sets to a velvety semi-matte finish that’s not drying or uncomfortable on the lips. Can be used on the lips and on the cheeks. Paraben free..”

If you’re into beauty and fashion, then you know “Marsala” has been everywhere this year and it’s a shade that can be an awesome chic neutral or a horrible brown mess. I was interested to see which category this set fell into.

01 Shy Marsala
#HDReady Cream Matte Lipstick #01 Shy Marsala

(Memebox Retail: $10.00)
Description: “Classic pinky nude beige, the lightest shade on the marsala color spectrum”
Verdict: Hit!

#02 True Marsala
#HDReady Cream Matte Lipstick #02 True Marsala

(Memebox Retail: $10.00)
Description: #02 True Marsala: warm soft brown with a hint of marsala red undertone
Verdict:
Hit!

#03 Daring Marsala
#HDReady Cream Matte Lipstick #03 Daring Marsala

(Memebox Retail: $10.00)
Description: sensual, bold, and rich wine a.k.a. Pantone marsala
Verdict:
Love!

At the words “matte” and “cream”, I immediately worried that these lipsticks would be super drying and cakey. They absolutely were not. They went on smoothly and had excellent staying power. No matte lip product will ever be hydrating but these didn’t have that horrible-make-your-lips peel factor.
Swatches
“Shy Marsala” might be a little pale for our lovely darker skinned ladies, but I think it will work well on the paler to medium skin tones. It gives that natural sunkissed, JLo-esque vibe. The “True Marsala” is a touch more orange than the other two shades, but very wearable. My surprise favorite was the darkest shade “Daring Marsala”. I was sure it would look awful on my pale skin, but it absolutely did not. It has this sort of 90s retro brown lipstick vibe and reminded me of this awesome “Toasted Almond” Revlon lipstick I rocked back in high school. (I loved that damn lipstick).  These shades could have gone horribly wrong on me with my pale skin and pink undertones, but they didn’t. They are great neutrals for every day wear and I think they’ll look fabulous on most ladies.

If you buy these as a set of 3, you can save $10. I think they are well worth the price at $10 and a steal at all three for $20. I’d happily pay that price for the set.

Have you rocked an “Marsala” makeup this year?

April Product Review: Memebox NYLON #ItGirlPalette “Sweet 16” & Coupon Codes!

So April’s product review is a special palette from Memebox. Once known for their Korean beauty boxes, Memebox has now made a big push into creating their own makeup line. For lots (and lots!) of coupon codes (including $4.00 off this palette), jump down below. Now on to the main event!
Box

Memebox graciously sent me their “Sweet 16”, Nylon #ItGirlPalette, designed by Nylon and created by Memebox. This palette retails for $29.00 and Memebox describes it on the site as follows:
“#ItGirlPalette is NYLON’s special gift to its readers in celebration of their 16th anniversary. All colors were carefully picked by NYLON’s senior beauty editors with a strong emphasis on versatility and uniqueness. Each color packs a punch so you can amp up the night with just one shade, or blend your favorites to create a custom look! This palette is a must-have for all gals that are edgy, trend-setting, and f***ing awesome. Cruelty Free.”

I kind of appreciate the nod to profanity. Sometimes you don’t want to be a princess, sometimes you just want to be a bitch in heels.

For folks that don’t know, Nylon is a beauty, fashion and pop culture magazine.  The “Sweet 16” moniker is in tribute to Nylon’s 16th anniversary and the shades relate to the magazine and are inspired by their most iconic cover stars.
Palette & Box Brush

Memebox automatically gets points added for the plastic packaging. So many palettes come in cardboard and even if you’re careful they end up looking dingy in no time. The dual sided brush is also nice quality and can give a decent application, although I prefer to use my makeup brushes.

Palette Close
The Moment: A Champagne Pink that can be used as a killer face illuminator or brow highlight
Lilo: A Matte White
Mary Kate: A Sparkly Olive
Mischa: A Grungy Rust
Lana: An Antique Gold
Paris: An Expensive Hazel
Nicole: A multi-dimensional blue-hued brown
Sweet 16: (blush) Memebox & Nylon’s signature matte hot pink

Verdict: Love!

At first glance I was worried these colors would look terrible on, but they don’t. Typically makeup leans a bit too warm or yellow for my cool, pale, pink undertoned complexion but these didn’t. Shades like the gold, definitely leaned a touch warm, but nothing that I couldn’t pull off. These colors are pretty neutral so whether you’re warm or cool, yellow or pink, you should be able to rock them.

Swatch Moment & Sweet 16
“The Moment” is super sparkly so I’d reserve it for evenings. The “Sweet 16” blush has amazing color payoff, but I’m not sure that I can pull it off with my complexion. I’ll have to play around with it.
Swatches
These eyeshadows went on smoothly and had decent staying power (even on my super oily lids). The best thing about this palette is how unique the colors. They are both intriguing and edgy and can work in a variety of looks. You could use Nicole for an evening metallic smoky eye with Mischa has an unexpected pop of color or Lana with a gorgeous cat eye liner for some old Hollywood flair, or try Paris for a romantic daytime look. I have quite a bit of makeup and these colors aren’t like anything else in my makeup kit. I’m going to have a ton of fun experimenting with them.

This palette retails for $29.00 which I think is a fair price. A lot of similarly priced palettes come in cardboard and with colors that aren’t half as interesting. If you want something unique for your makeup kit, definitely give this palette a shot.

March Product Review: Memebox SoothingSista Eyeshadow Quad & Coupon Codes!

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a product review, but it’s because I’ve been amassing a nice stockpile so prepare yourselves to see a bunch of them for Spring (blessed, wondrous, oh so longed for Spring). I’m kicking off my 2015 product reviews with a little something from Memebox. Typically I review Memebox’s Korean beauty boxes, but they’ve really made a push into creating their own makeup line and they sent me the SoothingSista Eyeshadow Quad to review for you all.
Box

This paraben free/cruelty free palette retails on Memebox for $17.00. “Stephanie Villa AKA SOOTHINGSISTA has created 4 rosy brown shades to be worn day or night for irresistible eyes! Each shade has a smooth finish with double-coated pigment technology for long lasting color.”

Who is Stephanie Villa aka Soothingsista?

SOOTHINGSISTA AKA Stephanie Villa is taking the YouTube world by storm with her makeup, skincare and fashion tutorials. Stephanie empowers you to be a goddess, harnessing inner and outer beauty to be the best version of yourself.”

Stephanie sounds way cool, since I totes believe my best self is an empowered goddess. Also, she has kick ass eyebrows. I’m going to need to spend some time studying her ways. You can check out her tutorial about using this palette on YouTube.

I appreciate the plastic packaging since cardboard palettes get destroyed in a short time.
Palette
Stephanie named the different shades in this palette after her favorite places in San Francisco.

Closeup Names
Sutro:
Light Dusty Rose Matte
Valencia: Medium pinky-brown matte
Candy Rain: Metallic Rose Shimmer with silver microglitter
Bay Area: Metallic Pink shimmer with iridescent glitter
Palette Colors Swatches

The colors go on smoothly but Sutro isn’t as pigmented as I would like. The Bay area is quite glittery and I’d probably use it more for evening than daytime. It’s hard to see in these photos but these rosy nude shades lean just a touch on the warm side for my cool undertones and the result is that the colors end up looking  a bit muddy. They were still wearable but they lost that pink/rose feel that made them so pretty in the palette.  A huge positive for these shadows was their staying power.  I have super oily lids and even with a hardcore eye primer most of my eye makeup is gone or all over my face by the end of the day. These shades were still on my lid and going strong long after I’d gotten home from work.

Verdict:

If these shades were a cooler pink then this would be a love. Unfortunately I just don’t think they are the best match for my complexion.  If you have warmer or more neutral undertones to your skin I think you could rock these shades, (particularly if you want to go for a romantic look.) Overall, rose browns can offer a lot of versatility and I recommend that everyone keep a few shades in their makeup arsenal.

Memebox – Thanksgiving Box Collection #1 For Me

Sorry it’s been a little quiet over here at Subscription Therapy. The nature of my boring day job is that it gets crazy at deadline time and since I’ve been fighting off a cold as well, it’s been hard to get in my time with you all. But I’m back and ready to talk boxes. So Memebox, is a Korean beauty box where you buy individual boxes (rather than a monthly sub). I went crazy a few months back buying a ton of them (which I promise I will get around to reviewing) but then all went quiet at Memebox. They restructured their affiliates and VIP programs and it seemed there were next to no new boxes. But now, they are back with a vengeance and I am constantly getting emails about new stuff.

It turns out that it was Thanksgiving in January since Memebox graciously sent me their intriguing Thanksgiving Box Collection #1 for review. This should be particularly entertaining since I’m not exactly sure Koreans totally get American Thanksgiving. It’s currently sold out but the original cost was $26 plus shipping.

PackageMemebox’s description is: “Everyone knows the best gifts are the ones you get yourself, so say thanks to yourself this 2014 Thanksgiving season, packed with the perfect collection of K-Beauty selects. Considering all the 2014 stress – think overtime work, juggling 2 kids, and cramming for finals week – you really, really deserve it! Memebox put together a special box full of holy grail K-Beauty goodies that we want to gift you this Thanksgiving season.”

Thanskgiving: I do not think it means what you think it means.
Now it sounds like this is just supposed to be a pampering style box where you are “thankful” for yourself. Seems odd. I also think Americans are going to expect products that have something to do with the Thanksgiving season itself – like pumpkins and warm spices. But this box claims to have “holy grail” beauty goodies so let’s see if it lives up to the hype.
Box Open Box Quote
To start our signature pink Memebox has gone orange and there’s some cute quotes on the inside flap.

Open Box 1

Card #1 Card #2
And what I’m most thankful for is the usual dual-sided card that translates (or tries to translate) the Korean product labels. Some products are self-explanatory but a lot of them really really need that card.

Lipstick
Clio Virgin Kiss Tinted Lip #22 Electric 3.5g
(Memebox Retail: $10.00)
Description: A pop orange under daylight, Virgin Kiss Tinted Lip in #22 Electric transforms into a glow-in the-dark electric orange under blue LED lights. Its feathery lightweight formula glides onto lips smoothly and steins it with the color radiance and adherence of a matte lipstick. Plus, its vivid color formation is based on safflower components which were used as natural lip steins by Korean geishas back in the days.”
Verdict: What you talking bout Willis?
Let’s assume “steins” really means “stains”, shall we? Well, orange is a Thanksgiving color, but a glow in the dark lipstick seems far more suited to a Halloween box than a Thanksgiving one. And it goes without saying that age wise this is super young. Outside of costume applications there aren’t a huge range of women who want glow in the dark lipstick. There also aren’t a huge amount of women that can pull of electric orange lipstick. Unless you’re $kesha, I can’t imagine glow in the dark orange lipstick is a “holy grail” beauty product for you.

Toner
Jaminkyung Gokmul Care Ultra Ampoule Toner 110ml
(Memebox Retail: $46)
Description: “Jaminkyung is a Korean natural cosmetics company with its brand value set on achieving lasting beauty through a combination of naturally-derived quality ingredients and its safe & effective manufacturing technology. The Gokmul Care Ultra Ampoule Toner is a 2Phase essence type toner with a blend of lightweight whole grain-infused toner and deeply nourishing camellia oil in 64 golden ration. It will deliver a rich moisture boost while controlling the moisture/oil balance for dry, sensitive skin.”
Verdict: Hit!
The 64 Golden Ratio? I wasn’t aware there was math on this test. In any case, I love trying natural products and I use moisturizing style toners every night so this will definitely get used. As for the box theme, it goes with self-pampering, but not so much with what most folks would think of with “Thanksgiving”.

Neck Cream
803 Cream 50g Sam n Cream
(Memebox Retail: $34)
Description: “The 803 cream series is specifically designed so that each cream targets different parts of the face. They’re all enriched with shea butter, adenosine, adipophillin, niacinamide, and borphillin which have effective skin brightening and firming functions. The Palazza Cream works to firm up and fill in the deepening smile lines that urn from nose down to corners of mouth. The Sam N Cream targets dry, sagging neckline with a blend of purified caffeine and collagen extracts. The Young Cream is a moisture booster for face and body.”
Verdict: On the Fence
So I got the neck cream which is used to combat jiggly turkey neck.   So this item both fits American Thanksgiving and the Memebox “give yourself stuff” Thanksgiving. I would have preferred one of the other creams since I’m not really at the point where my neck is an issue. That begs the question of who on earth needs both a glow in the dark orange lipstick and a neck cream? Like is someone’s 70 year old grandma going to a rave?

Masks
Sally’s Box 4 Set (Love Recipe Apple Mask 20ml;Delight Pantehenol Hydrogel Mask 25g;Delight Ceramide Hydrogel Mask 25g;Delight Collagen Hydrogel Mask 25g)
(Memebox Retail: $13.00)
Description: “The Loving Recipe Apple Mask is enriched with abundant apple extracst for soothing and balancing out rough skin texture and delivering moisture and nutrition into the skin. The 3 Delight Hydrogel masks are made from the garden bommplex containing more than 10 herbal ingredients from Mother Nature and each work to deply hydrate, firm up and relive coarse, thirsty skin.”
Verdict: Like
I always like getting sheet masks. They are fun to try and easy to use. The “apple” masks fits in with Thanksgiving and is pampering so I think this one works pretty well within the theme.

Bunny
Tonymoly Hell Bunny Perfume Bar 02 9g
(Memebox Retail: $11.00)
Description: “A stick-type perfume bar packaged into a lovely bunny design. It’s infused with a top not eof lemon citrus, a middle note of frisia and white rose, and a bottom note of sandalwood and musk.”
Verdict: Come on it’s in a bunny!
Tonymoly stuff is always fun and the packaging on this is adorbs. The scent is fresh and a bit citrusy and I actually like it, so for a change I’m keeping a perfume for myself. I also love solid perfumes and I think that there should be more of them out there. They are great to take into your bag for freshening up during the day, easy to travel with and last so much longer. I’m not sure the bunny really fits with Thanksgiving, but it’s cute so I don’t care.

Cleanser
Ariul Stress Relieving Purefull Cleansing Foam 75ml
(Memebox Retail: $8.00)
Description: “Abundant, cream-like foam bubbles penetrate deep into your pores, cleansing away any makeup residues, skin impurities, blackheads and dead skin cells piled up and leaving your skin freshly cleaned, moist and brighter overall.”
Verdict: Like
Cleansers are very practical and are items you tend to go through pretty quickly so they are always good in boxes. This item is playing up the “stress-relieving/gift to yourself” angle but I do wish they’d gone with something that felt more thanksgiving. Like an apple or pumpkin cleanser or just a dessert themed one.

Serum 1 Serum 2
Pisteo Bright & Pure C Serum 7 ml
(Memebox Retail: $100.00)
Description: “Made up of pure Vitamin C concentrates, this tiny bottle of nutrients will replenish moisture balance, firm up fine wrinkles and brighten overall complexion with continuous application.”
Verdict: Like
Now Memebox claims this is a$100 value. They tend to over-inflate the values on these products and since it’s not easy to find a lot of them, it’s hard to have a real idea of the costs. Serums are always a great bet for a nighttime routine. If you don’t want anything to fussy at night, just use a anti-aging eye cream and a good serum and your skin should be in pretty great shape. This is another practical product and I can definitely see the pampering aspect, even if it doesn’t feel “Thanksgiving” to me.

Full box
OVERALL
Verdict:
Like

There were a lot of good products in this box. The big problem it had was uneven curation and a theme that maybe was not the best choice for an American market. As I mentioned earlier the type of person that needs a neck cream probably doesn’t want a glow in the dark lipstick. And when you say “Thanksgiving box” to an American audience they are going to expect food or fall themed items to be included. I know Memebox tried to play up the “pamper yourself” aspect, but you can still do that and use items that feel right for the Thanksgiving season. I also don’t feel like everything in here really fits in the “holy grail” of Korean beauty products. If I’m thinking Korean Beauty staples I expect things like CC creams and liquid eye liners.

According to Memebox, the retail value of this box was $212.00, but again they inflate their prices so it’s probably less than half of that. I got this box for free, but it retailed at 26 plus shipping. For the amount and size of products I do think it’s a great deal at that pricetag. The toner, face masks and perfume were all a hit for me and I’ll use the more practical cleanser and serum eventually. The only huge miss was the lipstick that I’ll have to give away to someone younger and cooler.

I’ve still got a backlog of Korean beauty boxes so if you enjoy the Memebox posts be sure to come back for some more fun makeup and skincare finds.

What would you expect in a Thanksgiving themed beauty box?

Memebox – Global #16

A few months back I went a little nuts ordering Memeboxes, and as they have slowly trickled in I now have a giant stockpile to review for you. Today I’m going with the first box I actually ordered and the last one I received – Memebox Global #16. This box is still available for $29.99.
Package

Memebox’s description: Always anticipated, and always bringing excitement, Memebox Global is back for the 16th time! Packed with all your beauty essentials, this box is packed with goodies that will keep you waiting on your toes!
Box

This was possibly the most vague description on any Memebox ever and if I saw this one now I probably wouldn’t order it. Soon after I snagged this they came out with all kinds of intriguing themes about princesses and berries and oceans that were way more compelling. I now expect a theme to wow me, but let’s see what the super vague box contains.

Blackhead Set
RiRe Style Black Head Brush Cleanser & Skinny Black Head Closing Serum 40ml + 20 ml
(Memebox Retail: $18.00)
Description: Packed with black food complex – black rice, black beans, black sesame –rich in protein and iron, the Style Black Head Cleanser effectively removes any oil, dirt, blackheads, whiteheads, dead skin cells, and skin impurities clogging up the pores and delivers improved firmness and skin elasticity by tightening up blackheadless pores. Then the Skinny Black Head Closing Serum provides the perfect 2nd step oil control and pore care for maintaining a well-balanced skin condition.”
Verdict: Hit!
If I had to pick my biggest skin problem it would be blackheads so I’m always excited to try a new product that claims to remove them. I’m really intrigued with the brush applicator and can’t wait to try this out!

Shrink Lifting
Elizavecca Shrink Lifting R Pro 120ml

(Memebox Retail: $28)
Description: “Oi-based and non-sticky, Elizavecca Shrink Lifting R pro is a cream for your swollen calves. It works to literally shrink the size of calves by relieving stimaulated skin and increasing skin elasticity and firmness. Its gentle yet effective formula consists of mandarin extracts, coffee extracts, age oil, peppermint, winter green and mate leaf extracts.
Verdict: Hit!
How did Memebox know I have gigantic Popeye style calves? I also have one calf that’s way bigger than the other. I have these knee high boots where one fits snug and the other totally collapses. When I wear them I look like some weird refugee from an accident in a boot factory. In any case, this is a strange strange product, but I’m still totally into it. The thing I love about Memebox is getting weird stuff I never even knew existed. I’ve heard about creams to shrink your arms, your waist, your wrinkles, even you weird neck jiggles, but calves? It’s so ridiculous I just have to try it.

Hair
Hair+ Velvet Nutri-Injection 12ml
(Memebox Retail: $5)
Description: “For all those damaged hairs out there, the Velvet Nutri-Injection is here to save the day! There’s absolutely no need to rinse after application. Simply apply it throughout your hair, especially the damaged ends, after towel drying , and experience results of a hair clinic program!
Verdict: Like
Does anyone know what results a “hair clinic program” gives you? It makes this sound like it helps you grow more hair, but the description just explains it helps with damaged hair. Despite the mixed messages, this sounds weird enough that I am intrigued. I’ll try it out as a hair treatment on one of my home spa days and see how it goes.

Mist
Unni Recipe Vitamin Recharger Mist 130ml
(Memebox Retail: $15.00)
Description: “Qunech skin’s thirst and brighten up dull complexion with Unni Recipe Vitamin Recharger Mist enriched with 6 different vitamins and hyaluronic acid. Plus, it’s completely free of paraben, benzophenon, mineral oil, alcohol, tri-ethanol and artificial coloring, thus making it gentle enough to be used by all skin types.”
Verdict: On the Fence
In general I’m just not a huge fan of facial mists. They just aren’t products that ten to find a place in my regimen. This sounds nice enough and I may give it a chance if I find that my winter skin needs extra moisture.

Snail
Mizon Snail Recover Gel Cream 45ml
(Memebox Retail: $24.00)
Description: “A light, fast-absorbing gel cream consisted 74% of snail mucus extracts which work to soothe and de-stress while moisturizing, nourishing and firming the skin for a gentle, non-irritating blemish & wrinkle care.”
Verdict: You had me at snail!
I know it sounds weird, but I have an obsession with snail beauty products. I got a snail face cream in one of my first Memeboxes and I love it so much that I’m always thrilled to get another snail product.

Ampoule
Delskin Centella 90 Power Ampule 30ml
(Memebox Retail: $14.00)
Description: “Over 90% of this facial ampule consists of Centella Asiatica extracts, world renowned for its intensive soothing and repairing agents highly gentle and effective on sensitive skin suffering from stimulated reddened spots or blemishes. Rejuvenate dry, tired skin with one of Mother Nature’s best gifts!”
Verdict: A bit boring
This sounds like a basic serum and after snail creams, and calf thinners and stuff that is supposed to mimic a hair clinic, it just seems a bit lackluster. I’ll add this to my ever growing serum stash but I’m not sure if I’ll use it or pass it along.

Verdict:
Love!

I’m surprised at how much I liked this box. I have to say I really do enjoy the weirder items and any time they include a snail product, it just makes me love the box. This box cost $29.99 plus shipping but with a coupon code and free shipping I only paid $24.99. According to Memebox retail the total value of this box was $104.00, but their prices are always inflated.

Most of the products in this box were interesting and I will use nearly all of them so I’m happy with what I received for my $24.99

Memebox – Princess Edition #1 Snow White

So I’ve got a giant stack of Memeboxes that have just been screaming at me for reviews. Unfortunately I misplaced my info card for the Earth & Sea box so while I hunt it down, I’ll distract you with my review of the Memebox Princess Edition #1 Snow White instead.

Memebox’s description: The cooler months spell for the perfect time to brighten up skin, even out uneven complexions, and target pesky dark spots! Whatever shade of the rainbow your skin color is, optimize your skin’s radiance and clarity for luminous, glowing skin.

This box was introduced with two other Princess boxes (Rapunzel & Sleeping Beauty).

Because I have freckles and an uneven skin tone, I’ve been wanting to try out some Korean whitening products so this box seemed like a great opportunity. (Plus who can resist a princess themed box?) This box is currently sold out, but Memebox often restocks so be sure to check back if you really want it.  If you must have a Princess Box immediately, the Tinkerbell box is still available for $29 plus shipping.  For coupon codes and special links jump down to the backstory.

And just be warned that if you get a birthday or Christmas gift it will probably come in a jacked up version of this box because they are sturdy and adorable.

Card #1 Card #2
As usual we’ve received our lifeline – the dual-sided card that translates the Korean labels (well, mostly translates).

Whitener
Nella Fantasia Oneday Whitener 120ml
(Memebox Retail: $29.00)
Description: This is a magically whitening body lotion that instantly moisturizes and brightens up dry, coarse and darkened skin tone for a lasting glow all day long. It’s also non-sticky and strong against water and sweat.”
Verdict: Like
I’ve never heard of a whitening body lotion so this one is pretty interesting (and doubly so since it’s “magical”). I have plenty of freckles on my arms so I’m willing to give this a try once I finish up my current lotion.

Essence
original raw First Essence 110ml (Vitamin Essence)

(Memebox Retail: $26.00)
Description: “Both the Red Essence and the Vitamin Essence are combinations of a skin toner, an essence and a lotion all in one. Also, they’re both enriched with various vitamin nutrients and dragon’s blood extracts from the dragon tree and work to instantly rejuvenate and brighten up the damaged or sagging skin.
Verdict: Hit!
There’s dragon’s blood in this! Dragon’s blood! Or dragon fruit or something from a Dragon tree.  In any case it sounds cool. Subscribers received either the Red or the Vitamin. I wish I’d gotten the red since it seems to gel better with my idea of what Dragon’s blood should look like, but this one seems nice too.  I really like multi-tasker products and in particular, toners that are super moisturizing (astringent ones are not good for me). Once I finish up with the Bliss toner I’m using I’ll give this one a whirl.

Anti-wrinkle
FACEFLUX Anti-Wrinkle Revitalizing Cream 30g
(Memebox Retail: $38.00)
Description: “Enriched with ceramide, hyaluronic acid, lemon verbena extracts, shea butter and portulaca extracts, the Anti-Wrinkle Revitalizing Cream works to brighten up dulled complexion, to relive stimulated or sensitive skin, and to treat sings of fine lines and wrinkles for a younger and healthier-looking complexion overall.”
Verdict: Like
I like that this product is for sensitive skin and now that I’m officially old, I can use all the anti-wrinkle stuff I can get. It’s not super interesting but I’m sure that I’ll get use out of it.

Essense - Bunny
Daltokki Whitening Essence 100mL
(Memebox Retail: $35.00)
Description: “All you need is a single drop of Daltokki’s Whitening Essence mixed with a facial cream for a whitening and moisturizing effect, with a sunblock for creating the naturally brightened skin tone and with a BB cream or foundation for creating the fully covered and perfectly toned up complexion.”
Verdict: On the Fence
Dear Lord that packaging is terrifying. Would you want to use anything that made you look like that? I’ll be honest, the product sounds super interesting but my real trepidation comes from the truly scary packaging. If that’s the best thing they could think of to put on the box, I’m afraid of what they put in the bottle. I will be brave though and try this out since I really like the idea of being able to use it with all my existing products.

Scrub
Ipsennature 5 Seeds Apple Water Brightening Scrub 90ml
(Memebox Retail: $26.00)
Description: “Made from apple water, apricot, raspberry, walnut, rice and corn seed powders this Brightening Scrub is a cleansing scrub which works to gently peel away all dead skin cells and skin impurities and deliver skin replenishing and brightening effects all in one.”
Verdict: Love!
First, I love that there is an “apple” product in here since it ties right into the story of Snow White and I wish the box had more apple items. I love fruity cleansing products so this is right up my alley. Once I finish up at least one of my open face scrubs I will add this one into the rotation.

Rollerball
Morningtree Revitalizing Whitening Deep Spot 20ml
(Memebox Retail: $34.00)
Description: “Excessive melanic pigmentation is responsible for darkeneds spots over you body, face, hands, arm pits, buts elbows , knees , heels and even the Y-zone. This high concentrate, gel-type essence will soothe, cool, brighten and repair such dry and darkneed spots and it’s suitable for all skin types and for both men and women.”
Verdict: Like
I got to say this description certainly was thorough – I mean just saying face and body would have been easy, but they really wanted to spell out every place you could possibly have dark spots. I must admit I don’t know what a Y zone is – is that like the T zone’s cousin? I think this sounds like a good treatment for any hardcore freckles I have and I  will put it aside for spot treatments.

Hit!

It was obvious from the theme that this was going to be a whitening box and Memebox delivered exactly what I expected. I loved the apple scrub and I do wish they’d included more apple products and maybe less essences. The cost of this box was $29.00 plus $6.99 shipping. I used some Memepoints along with a coupon code and ended up paying $25.99. According to Memebox retail the total value of this box was $188.00, but they  inflate the prices.

For the price I paid I was happy with the items I received and I thought the box worked as a whole.
