Popsugar Must Have Box: January 2014

I’ve been battling some ridiculous cold that won’t seem to die, so I’m a bit behind in my box blogging.  So ignore my sniffling and coughing and we’ll get into the January 2014 Popsugar Must Have Box.  For info on Popsugar subscriptions along with some coupon codes jump down below.
Box

Mask
Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask
(Retail: $40.00)
Category: Must Have Beauty
Verdict: Hit!
I love trying out face masks so these are always a win for me.  This one is described as a “five-minute foaming gel” that “uses antioxidants and vitamins to gently cleanse pores while sealing in hydration and brightening your complexion.”  I’m intrigued by the foaming gel and the antioxidants.  Once my skin has recovered from the constant abuse of tissues I’ll give this one a shot.

Book
The Juice Generation Book (Retail: $9.59)
Category: Must Have Food
Verdict:  Miss
Okay, so to start with I cannot drink cold vegetables.  I will gladly eat salads and all kinds of veggie dishes, but juiced vegetables are horrific for me.  No matter how much you try to bury the taste of that kale underneath lovely apples and oranges I still taste it.  I would much rather just have a nice kale salad and a glass of apple juice, thanks.  I’ve actually been trying to add fruit smoothies into my regular workday breakfast rotation so there might be  one or two recipes I can use, but for the most part this book is a miss.  I like the idea of a get healthy type food item for January, but a cookbook focusing on fruits and veggie dishes would have had a much broader appeal.  This also came with a coupon for 30% off a Juice generation six-pack.  This whole item feels very fad-like and unappealing and I was pretty disappointed.

Gloves
Jack + Lucy Tech Gloves
(Retail: $??? Estimate $20.00)
Category: Must Have Fashion
Verdict:  Hit!
I can’t find a link for these gloves, so I’ll have to estimate the cost.  They are grey tech gloves that allow you to use your smartphones and touch screen devices without having to remove the gloves.  I don’t own a pair of these so I’m happy to have them, but I ‘m not sure how much use they will get.  I use fingerless gloves because I constantly have to get on and off buses and subways.  Throughout the day I’m digging for passes and change and when I use regular gloves I always lose one of them.  I’m going to save these tech gloves for the super cold Polar Vortex days where my fingerless gloves are just not going to cut it.

Calendar
Rifle Paper Co. 2014 Flip Around the World Desk Calendar (Retail: $12.00)
Category: Must Have Home
Verdict:  Miss/Hit for Style
To start the artwork on this is lovely and the cities theme is pretty unisex.  If I’d gotten this in December it would have been a hit, but by January I already have a plethora of calendars and I imagine I’m not the only one.  I think a better option for “kicking off the new year” in the home category might have been a fun or interesting organizational item.  This was also packaged with a 10% off code for the Rifle Paper Co.  They had a bunch of things I’d love to purchase but most were sold out.  I’m hoping they come back in stock before the code expires.

Pipcorn
Pipsnacks White Truffle Pipcorn (Retail: $6.00)
Category: Must Have Food
Verdict:  Miss
Now I like popcorn a lot.  I have an air popper and I really enjoyed the popcorn treat in December.  But it seems a little bit silly to have popcorn again so soon after they just included it.  And these are tiny little popcorn bits and the flavor on them is fairly subtle.  Since January tends to be the healthy food type month, I would have preferred to see maybe some granola or dried fruit.  I think that would have been far more suitable and less repetitive.

Files
Revlon by Marchesa Box O’ Files (Retail: $4.99)
Category: Must Have Beauty
Verdict:  Hit!
I know these are on the cheap side and that they have been floating around various outlets as freebies, but I still love them.  They are a boxed set of tiny files and they have an adorable pattern.  They fit perfectly in my manicure kit and I’ll get a ton of use from them.  I’d happily buy these.

Overall:
Mostly a Miss

With my discount for purchasing multiple months in advance I paid 33.88 for this box and it had an estimated retail value of $92.92.  Unfortunately, this box felt very lackluster and I didn’t get a sense of fun or inspiration from it.  This, more than any Popsugar box I’ve received felt more like advertising and more like “what products can we get for free” rather than a curated box of really cool stuff.  Now the mask alone already covers what I paid for the box, so I’ve gotten my value, but this box just left me wanting.

What did you think?  Was this box practical or just practically boring?

Popsugar Must Have Box – December 2013

And it’s that time again for the Popsugar Must Have Box.  For info on Popsugar subscriptions along with some coupon codes jump down below. Now let’s dive into the December Must Have Box.

BraceletBracelet Closeup
Lulu Frost for Popsugar Bracelet
(Retail: $110.00)
Verdict: Hit!
Lulu Frost seems to be a big hit with a lot of celebrities and is “known for mixing vintage and modern elements to create timeless baubles”.  This bracelet won me over because it has baguettes (they are a favorite of mine and don’t show up as frequently as I would like) and it has an art deco vibe (another favorite but this one does show up pretty often).  The only downside to this piece is that the design is only on the front while the back has the “Lulu Frost for Popsugar” logo.  With this style bracelet that logo is bound to show when the charm dangles.  I wish it had something more decorative in the back and maybe just a little dangle tag by the clasp to indicate the designer. The retail value of this item is more than three times the cost of what I paid for this box, so we’re off to a great start.

Wrapping Paper
Mixt Studio Holiday Gifting Set
(Retail: $9.00)
Verdict:  Hit!/Gift
It seems no matter how much wrapping paper I buy, I always run out at an inopportune moment, so I was happy to see this in my box and it promptly made it’s way onto Christmas gifts.  The “snow drift” print in particular is incredibly striking and has made my Mom’s Christmas gift look all the more amazing.

Mascara
ModelCo Fibre Lashxtend Black Mascara
(Retail: $)
Verdict:  Hit!
Once upon a time I fell in love with a Fibre mascara and then..gasp..they changed the formula.  Then, of course it didn’t work for me anymore.  I’m still in search of a replacement for that fibre mascara I once loved and lost, so I’m happy to try out a new one.  I’ve never tried anything by Modelco so it will be fun to play with a new brand.  The mascara also includes a cute little mirror right on the tube.  This  came with a coupon for $10 off plus a free ultra lip gloss.

Flutes
Govino Go Anywhere Flutes
(Retail: $12.95)
Verdict:  Gift
I have a lot of glasses.  It’s one of those things that people seem to love to give me plus I inherited a ton of my grandmother’s, so I am well stocked up.  In order for me to add on a set of glasses I have to love them and these just don’t speak to me.  The fact that they are shatterproof and plastic isn’t really appealing either.  I feel like if I’m at an event casual enough for plastic, it’s time to bring out the giant red beer cups, that I won’t have to wash when all is said and done.  These do however complement a Christmas gift I already had planned so they are getting packed up with that.

Popcorn
CC Caramel Corn
(Retail: $4.00)
Verdict:  Hit!
The only problem with this was that there wasn’t more of it.  It was delicious and I had to fight my boyfriend in order to get some.

Nail Wraps
NCLA Peppermint Lane Nail Wraps
(Retail: $16.00)
Verdict:  Hit!
As I’ve mentioned before, 2013 was the year that I got into doing my nails.  I’ve been meaning to try some nail wraps but haven’t gotten around to it.  These designs seem pretty basic and I think they’d work great as accent nails with my Julep colors.

Chocolates
Ghirardelli Squares Chocolate
(Retail:$8.40/Retail: $4.25)
Verdict:  Gift
I love chocolate but since this time of the year is filled with so many amazing confections and treats I decided to add these to some Christmas gifts and share the calories—eh, I mean the love.  Yeah, the love.

With my discount for purchasing multiple months in advance I paid 33.88 for this box and it had an estimated retail value of $184.60.  I either liked or could gift everything  so it was definitely a win for me.  I do think the appeal of this box lies with the high ticket item.  If you like that Lulu Frost bracelet, everything else is just gravy.

What did you think of this box?  Hit or Miss?

Popsugar Limited Edition Holiday Box – December 2013

As you may have discerned by now I cannot resist a Popsugar limited edition box.  It’s like subscription box heroin for me, so of course I scooped up the Popsugar special Holiday box. Cardboard

For info on Popsugar subscriptions along with some coupon codes jump down below, and for those of you still with me, let’s get down to it.
OpeningWrapped

As with my other special edition Popsugar boxes, this one is beautifully packaged and feels like a special treat.

 Scarf
Cuyana Alpaca Infinity Scarf (Retail: $65.00)
Verdict:
Gift
For some reason, I became a scarf hoarder this year and I’ve picked up all kinds of awesome ones.  I adore infinity scarves and this one is soft and well made, but the color just doesn’t do anything for me, so I’ll be giving it as a Christmas gift.  This also came with a coupon for a special gift with any Cuyana purchase on shopstyle.com

Bracelet
Erickson Beamon Rocks Blondie Stone Bangle (Retail: $98.00 – I couldn’t find the exact one online so I chose a similar size bracelet from their collection here and based the price on that.)
Verdict:
Love!
If you’re a frequent reader, you’ve noticed that I get a lot of bracelets from these boxes, everything from dainty little strands to giant wonderwoman cuffs.  This one is my favorite of the year.  It has a very Anthropologie-esque vibe and I just love the rhinestones.  Not only would it be great for a dressy occasion, but it’d be cute with jeans and a nice top for date night.

Cheese Plate
Lunares Cheese Paddle with Knife
(Retail: $69.00)
Verdict:  Hit!
While this is packaged perfectly as an awesome gift, I am totally hoarding it for myself.  I love to entertain and despite my kitchen full of serving platters, I don’t own a single cheese board.  I also lucked out and got my favorite color, so I figure this one was meant for me.  This set is super sleek, and excellent quality.  If you’re able to part with it, it’d make a really awesome housewarming gift.

Tokyomilk
Tokyomilk’s Dark Body Soufflé in “Chance”:
(Retail: $40.00)
Verdict:  Love!
“Fresh bamboo and tea leaves meet green fig and soft, white musk in this captivating fragrance with an unexpected twist.”  I’m unfamiliar with this brand but between the description and the irresistible packaging, I’m sure excited to try it out.  This is the nicest packaging I’ve ever seen on any lotion.  In fact it was so nice that I put it on top of my dresser because my craptastic bathroom is not worthy of something this pretty.  The quality and weight make it feel more a jewelry box rather than beauty packaging.  As soon as I finish using the soufflé, I’ll be turning this into a little trinket box.  It’s like two gifts in one.

Pretzels
Fatty Sundays Peppermint Crunch Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzels:
(Retail: $6.95)
Verdict:  Gift
While I love chocolate covered pretzels I’m not quite as fond of peppermint so these will make the perfect addition to a Christmas gift I’ve been putting together.

Winks
Winks by Georgie False Lash Compact
(Retail: $15.00)
Verdict:  Love!
I have always wanted to try out false lashes.  I stupidly bought one of those kits that have individual lashes you stick on, forgetting of course that they scare the hell out of me, so they’ve been collecting dust in my makeup case.  This looks far more manageable and it comes in an adorable compact.  According to Popsugar’s card the glue is made with “organic chamomile that’s meant to soothe skin while keeping falsies in place”.  This is perfect for my uber sensitive eyes. I will  definitely be trying these, just keep your fingers crossed I don’t poke my eye out.

Datebook
Graphic Image 2014 Datebook:
(Retail: $97.00)
Verdict:  Love!
I have an Iphone and an Outlook calendar and all kinds of electronic scheduling devices, and yet I always end up preferring paper to keep my appointments.  At work I hang up an actual calendar and write stuff in, so this item is absolutely perfect for me and might help me remember appointments when I can’t just stare at my office wall calendar.  This book is beautiful quality and makes you feel like you should be penciling in appointments for lunch at the Plaza and weekends in the Hamptons.   Sadly, mine will have to settle for dental appointments and birthday parties.  This also came with a card offering a 10% discount when you sign up on their site or make a purchase.

Overall:
Love!

I paid $107.00 for this box and I came out with an estimated retail of $390.95.  I loved nearly everything in this box and the remaining items are perfect for gifting.  Second to the Nina Garcia Quarterly box, this is the best box I’ve received in 2013.  Popsugar has definitely won me over and while I hope they keep up these limited edition boxes, I really need them to space them out so I don’t go broke.

What do you think?  Did you love this one as much as I did?

Popsugar Must Have Box: November 2013

I finally got my November Popsugar Must Have Box.  For some info on the subscription along with some coupon codes, jump down below.

Wrap
Michael Stars Folk Art Wrap (Retail:  $42.00)
Verdict: Gift
I love wraps and scarves and I’ve been hoarding all different kinds this year, (which is great since it’s 40 below right now) but I’m just not into this pattern. It is however really soft and versatile and I think it’s going to make a great gift for someone on my Christmas Shopping List.

Candle
Illume Candle in Naughty:
(Retail: $15.75)
Verdict:  Hit!/Gift
Apparently this Illume candle came in a “Naughty” version (spicy wooded scent) or “Nice” (sweet vanilla).  I am not surprised I was on the Naughty list.  I love candles and normally I’d hoard this for myself, but after the Popsugar Neiman Marcus pine scented Nest candle, I think I may have to give this one up for the gift pile.  I’m considering picking up the “Nice” candle and turning it into a set.

Wine Holder
Lands’ End Single Canvas Wine Tote:(Retail: $12.00)
Verdict:  Miss
Putting aside that most single wine totes are fairly useless and are just to dress up a bottle of wine you’re gifting, this one feels off season.  Sure it’s red, but the canvas makes it feel like this belongs on a summer picnic, not in a November bag. If they were going to include a wine tote, I would have put something more festive and glitzy, that would work for all the holiday events and New Year’s Eve parties.  Like imagine walking through the door in a cute little black dress with a bottle of bubbly in a snazzy sparkling bag.  This will either be a gift or I’ll Macgiver it into storage for some of my random crafting crap.

Preserves
Maison De Monaco Strawberry & Blackcurrant Cream Preserves:
(Retail: $6.00)
Verdict:  Hit!
“Hand-cooked in San Francisco in small batches and made from 70% fruit.”  I love jams and jellies and things that come in cute glass jars.  Since it’s that baking time of year, I have earmarked this little guy for  butter and jam thumbprint cookies for some Christmas treat boxes I’m making for my coworkers.

Soap
The Soap & Paper Factory Roland Pine Shea Butter Soap:(Retail: $8.00)
Verdict:  Hit/Gift!
This soap smells like a Christmas tree.  It’s a perfect addition to a Christmas gift I already have mostly assembled and  this would be a fabulous stocking stuffer for a guy (since pine trees are manly or a least more manly than most soap scents).

Remover Pads
Absolute! Nail Polish Remover in Lavender:
(Retail: $2.99)
Verdict:  Hit!
I love trying out new nail polish removers, especially ones that don’t have acetone and smell good.  I’ve added these to my nail kit and I can’t wait to try them out.

Chips
Barefruit Crunch Sea Salt Caramel Apple Chips:
(Retail: $3.42)
Verdict:  Miss
I tried, I swear I tried over and over to like apple chips.  But to me they have this weird almost tomato like taste and the texture is just, no.  In the interests of science, I gave these a taste and my previous opinion still stands.  I tried to pawn them off on a coworker and he too passed after trying one. Call me old fashioned, but I’d much rather just eat an apple.

Giftcard
Canvaspop Gift Card:(
Retail $30.00)
Verdict:  On the Fence
So this gift card will allow you to make a canvas print from your own photos.  I’m a little on the fence with this since I have to spend my own money, but I might be able to find a cool vacation photo or maybe even turn it into a gift.  We’ll see if I can put this to use before the expiration date.

Full Box
Overall:
Quite Satisfied.

Because I paid for 6 months in advance, I got a discount and paid $33.88 for my November box.  The retail value, including the gift card was $120.16.  Removing the gift card, the value is still an excellent $90.16.

While I didn’t love everything in this box, I liked most of it and I got a nice jump start on a number of Christmas presents.

If you love reading up on the Popsugar boxes, please head back soon as December will not only bring a must have box, but their sold out Special Edition Holiday Box!

Neiman Marcus Popsugar Must Have Box – November 2013

So it came.  Finally.  The holy grail of subscription boxes.  The now infamous Popsugar Special Edition Neiman Marcus box that cost $250 and sold out in 12 hours.  I have one and now it’s time to see what’s inside it.

BoxBox Half Open

To start, this frick’n box is so heavy that there has to be something breakable in there.  Only stuff fragile stuff can weigh this much. If I thought the $100 Fall style box was luxurious, this was like it’s uber snobby, super rich, older cousin. The box itself is really high quality and I plan to reuse it for storage, so we’re already off to a great start.

Neiman Box Open Wrapped

Blanket
Chevron Printed Throw:(Retail: $195)
Verdict: Hit!
This item was the spoiler Popsugar released when the box was first announced.  The big question was what color you’d find in your box. I ended up with the gray which is the shade I wanted.  I had planned to gift this if I ended up with certain colors, but sorry suckers, this one is mine.

Adler
Jonathan Adler Carnaby Zebra Stacking Dish:
(Retail: $24.00)
Verdict: Gift
We’d been told this box would include something by Jonathan Adler.  Now I love me some little dishes for rings, keys or paperclips, but I’m just not feeling the design.  I got the navy blue and, something about the navy + animal print just isn’t working. It’s like nautical, but not. I think if this had come in the shiny gold they offer on the Jonathan Adler site I’d have loved it.  As is, I’m putting it in my Christmas gift pile.

Eyeshadow
Le Métier De Beauté –  Pretty in Punk Eye Shadow Palette:(Retail: $95.00)
Verdict: Love!

The last clue Popsugar gave us is that there’d be a Le Metier De Beauty item in this box.  This punk palette was made exclusively for this Popsugar collaboration so I don’t have a link to the item itself, but I’ll price it the same as their similar palette on the Neiman Marcus site.  Before I signed up for this box, I was unfamiliar with the brand but now that I’ve seen it, I’m so excited to try it out.  These folks are so fancy pants, I can’t even figure out how you order from their site (apparently everything is in sets?).  At first I was startled by the colors  and was afraid that my translucent self would be unable to use anything but the shimmery gold.  After googling I came across Le Métier’s video of their Couches de Couleur technique.  (You know it’s super fancy because the name is in French).  It seems that you layer these colors on top of each other to achieve a smoky eye.  After watching the whole thing, I think I can actually attempt this!  It has totally rocked my beauty world.  Just keep your fingers crossed that I don’t waste a $95 eyeshadow palette making myself look like I got punched in the face.

Treat
Neiman Marcus “Twist” White Fudge-Covered Corn Twists:
(Retail: $19.00)
Verdict: Hit!
This tube of calorific goodness is described as “white fudge-covered corn snacks.”  I’m game for trying all kinds of food items and while I’m normally not a fan of white chocolate this looks intriguing and will be a perfect to munch on when I put up my Christmas tree and decorations.

Plates
Slim & Sage Dinner Plates:
(Retail: $99.99)
Verdict: Gift
So these porcelain dishes are supposed to help you lose weight by being smaller (9 inches versus the standard 12) and with super secret portioning via geometric design (two quadrants for veggies, one for protein and one for carbs).  I seriously love dinnerware, but I’m just not in love with this pattern.  For the most part I’m not a geometric person and I don’t think I’d get much use out of these.  Another disappointment is that on the bottom of this beautiful box it reads “made in china” (as does the Jonathan Adler).  I don’t mind stuff being “made in china” when I buy it at Target, but for a super luxury box from Neiman Marcus, I’d kind of like to see it come from France, or Italy, or some other place that makes crap I can’t normally afford.  The plates are packaged really nicely and there are a few people on my Christmas list who I think would really love them, so they most likely will be gifted. ( Although the red is so perfect for Christmas I still might change my mind!)

NecklaceNecklace Closeup
SHY by Sydney Evan Love Pendant Bezel Diamond Necklace
: (Retail $125.00)
Verdict: Hit!
This is a 14K gold plated (over silver) necklace with an itty bitty diamond.  Yes, I said DIAMOND.  (Apparently Neiman Marcus is well aware of what’s a girl’s best friend.) I don’t own any word jewelry so this is a nice addition to my collection.  It’s really the offset diamond that makes it interesting.  The strange thing about this necklace is that it is very, very tiny.  It’s pretty much choker length. I think this could actually be a really cute gift for a tween aged girl, and if mom wants to go super cutesy she can get one for herself and they can match.

Candle
Nest Candle in Birchwood Pine:
(Retail: $34.00)
Verdict:  Love!

First, I love candles.  Second, this one has a really authentic pine tree smell.  This is perfect since I have a fake tree and every year my compromise with my boyfriend is that I’ll burn a pine candle and get a real wreath (he complains that there’s no Christmas smell with my fake one).  The glass container is adorable and has this fabulous mid-century modern holiday vibe to it.  This will be making its way into my holiday decorations come November 29th.

Hairspray
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray:
(Retail: $39.00)
Verdict:  Love!
The description makes this sound like magic for your hair: “This invisible dry hair spray builds in incredible volume and sexy texture. Patented polymers absorb oil at the roots, leaving you with just-styled hair for days (and nights).” So as I’ve mentioned in other posts, my hair is my final beauty frontier.  This year I conquered nails (thanks to Julep) and 2014 will be my hair year.  The last couple years, I’ve been going with a short bob, but I’ve been growing it out in search of long hair.  Right now I’m having an Ally Sheedy Breakfast club moment, so I’m hoping this item is as amazing as it sounds and will give me some much needed help with styling my hair.  I mean people it has patented polymers  which is so sciency it just has to work.

Full Box
Overall:

With tax I paid a whopping $267.50 for this box, but the value tops out at $630.00.  Now under normal circumstances I don’t splurge this much, but every year since I turned thirty I allow myself one luxury purchase at my birthday.  It should be something high end and special that will last a long time.  This year I decided to gamble on this box.  I’m actually quite happy I did.  Not only did I get a diamond, but I got a fabulous throw and candle that will look great in my apartment, a yummy treat to have during my holiday tree decorating, hair and makeup products that will totally help me try out new looks and a couple of fabulous Christmas gifts.

Popsugar also has a sold out Holiday box, but I snagged one so if you want to see what’s in it, be sure to check back.  Currently available along with Popsugar’s regular subscription there is also a Must Have Holiday Box for Men

So what did think of the Neiman Marcus Popsugar box?  Was it as luxurious as you thought it would be or did you expect more?

Popsugar: October 2013 Must Have Box

Because I so enjoyed my Popsugar Special Edition Fall Style box, I decided to try out their regular monthly subscription.  It was supposed to start off in November, but they managed to sneak me in the October box.

Part of this box’s theme was Breast Cancer Awareness so Popsugar donated $1.00 from every box to Breast Cancer research and teamed up with brand and products that also supported breast cancer charities.

Box

Now that I can feel like my subscription addiction is actually benefiting charity, let’s get inside this box.
Open Box

NYX Makeup
NYX Cosmetics Liquid Liner
and Smokey Shadow Palette (Retail:  $6.00/$7.00)
Verdict: On the Fence
I appreciated that instead of the ubiquitous black eyeliner this one included a chocolate brown (which works much better with my pale skin and red hair), but I’m not crazy about liquid liners in general.  I’m also not sold on the colors in the palette, but I’m going to give them a try and see how they work with my other makeup.

Bracelet
Gorjana Charity Bali Bead Bracelet (Retail: $45.00)
Verdict:  Hit!
This Gorjana-Griffin bracelet was described as “delicate and playful” and that’s exactly what it is.  It’s on the smaller side which is perfect for my freakishly tiny wrists.  I think it would pair surprisingly well with even dressy gold bracelets for a chic layered look.  100% of the proceeds of this piece go to charity so you can feel good while you look good.

Julep
Julep for Popsugar Duo: Freedom Polymer Topcoat & Myrtle Polish
(Topcoat: Retail: $18.00/Maven: $14.40; Myrtle:  Retail: $14.00 Maven: $11.20)
Verdict:  Hit!/Gift
If you’ve read much of my blog, you’ll know that I’m already a Julep maven, but I was in desperate need of more topcoat and this showed up at the perfect moment.   I find that Julep’s topcoat has a great shine to it and lasts for quite a while.  I already own Myrtle, but it’s a wonderful shade and I think I will be incorporating it into some Christmas gifts.  If you’re interested in a Julep maven subscription, I’ve got lots of Julep reviews on my blog and if you decide to sign up, I’d love it if you used my referral link.

Pins
Jane Tran Metallic Bobby Pins
(Retail: $12.00)
Verdict:  Hit!
My hair is my last real beauty frontier.  Thanks to Julep I have gotten into the habit of doing my nails and I have pretty much always been into fashion and makeup, but hair has been the one place where I’m a serious slacker.  The last couple years I’ve sported some modern bobs, but I decided to grow out my hair and attempt to actually start “doing” it.  I am currently in the awkward growing out stage so these bobby pins will come in handy.  They are substantial enough to hold something with a bit of color to them, but not so much that I’m going to resemble a kindergartener.

Wet Brush
The Wet Brush (Retail: $14.00)
Verdict:  Love!

So you know how I said that I’m a total slacker when it comes to my hair?  I’m pretty sure I’ve had the same plastic detangling comb in my shower for the last decade.  I’m excited to upgrade and try this out.  I know it will come in handy as my hair gets longer.  They are also another company giving a donation toward breast cancer for every brush included in this Popsugar box.

Treat!
The Crispery Halloween Crispycake (Retail: $3.95)
Verdict:  Hit!
This is one a big ass rice crispy treat and it has sprinkles!  What’s not to love?  In the spirit of Halloween, I cut a little (okay big) slab off and had it with some pumpkin spice coffee.  It was delish and very very marshmallowy.  Mmm..Marshmallowy..sorry, I got distracted.

Stitchfix
StitchFix Gift Card (Retail $20.00)
Verdict:  Hit!
Stitchfix is another incredibly intriguing subscription box.  You sign up, fill out a very detailed fashion profile and pay a $20 styling fee.  The Stitchfix stylists send you 5 fashion items that you can try out at home.  You keep what you like and send back the rest.  If you purchase anything, your $20 styling fee is applied to your purchase and if you elect to keep everything sent to you, you also get 25% off. I have been wanting to subscribe to this for a long time, and there’s only one reason I haven’t.  They can only currently offer styles up to a size 14.  I’m a 14/16 right now and am leery of jumping in when I may or may not fit into what they have.  I’ve been working on slimming down, so this is a great motivation and reward.  I didn’t see an expiration on the card so once I’m a 12/14, I’ll put it to good use.

Cookbook
The Can’t Cook Book: Recipes for the Absolutely Terrified! By Jessica Seinfeld (Retail: $16.76)
Verdict:  Love!
I really enjoy cooking, and I think I love collecting cookbooks even more.  This one is geared more toward beginning cooks, with incredibly useful how-tos (like chopping onions and herbs), lots of photographs and even guides on how to stock your kitchen.  The recipes are accessible, quick, easy and only use a few ingredients.  I think I’ll find some great go-to recipes for during for during the work week in this book.
Recipe
I already found the first one I plan to try: “Baked Egg Noodles with Cheese”.  Hmm, noodles and cheese..although if I want to fit into the Stitchfix gift card, I should probably make the “Roasted Cauliflower and Sage” instead. Decisions, oh decisions.

Full BoxOverall:  Love!

Because I paid for 6 months in advance, I got a discount and paid $33.88 for my October box.  The retail value, including the gift card was $156.71.  Removing the gift card and using Julep maven prices the value is still an excellent $130.31.

I’m going to use every item in this box except for the red polish, which will be part of a fabulous Christmas gift.  That’s a pretty great haul for my first regular Popsugar box and I can’t wait to see what’s in store next month.

If you love reading up on the Popsugar boxes, please head back soon as I am one of the lucky subscribers who snagged the Moby Dick of subscription boxes, the now infamous Neiman Marcus Popsugar Must Have Box.  Even at the hefty price tag of $250, it sold out in twelve hours.  Popsugar claims it will have a $600 retail value, so I’m assuming it’s filled with wish granting genies and unicorn tears.  Subscribe so you can be the first to glimpse the magical subscription box to end all subscription boxes.
